Back in 2009 WA voted No on Daylight Saving – well 55% voted no.

Perth has changed a lot since then, we were once considered by many as boring – however over the last 7 years I have seen Perth evolve into a city full of buzz.

Pop-up of numerous Australian and world renowned bars and restaurants, Elizabeth Quay, Perth Arena, Crown Casino complete makeover, Cathedral Square and Brookfield Place just to name a few. Plus not to mention Perth is continuing to change.

So with numerous social options and growing Perth communities now more than ever it seems right that WA should have Daylight Saving. And so far Perth seems to agree:

So while Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney adjust their clocks on October 2nd – here is my list of 16 reasons as to why Daylight Saving is a good idea for Perth and Western Australia.

1 – After what seemed like a long, cold, wet and miserable winter we deserve a bit of extra vitamin D.

Just to clarify I am aware that you don’t get an extra hours sunlight from nowhere because of daylight saving, but I am sure more people would be outside in the later evening to take advantage of daylight saving than people who are up at 4-5am.

2 – The majority of WA doesn’t wake up at 5am so it is ok if it is still dark. It’s dark the rest of the year at this time so it should be business as usual.

3 – You get an extra hours sleep when our clocks are set back. That’s free sleep!

4 – Don’t we all just use our phones/computers as our clocks these days? They will automatically adjust to and from daylight saving. Job done!

5 – You will never have to remember how many hours ahead are Melbourne again? Is it 2…3? Is daylight savings still on?

7 – Adelaide has daylight saving… Adelaide! Come on Perth we are better than this.

8 – More people will be able to get out and take photos of our stunning sunsets.

9 – Restaurants might actually stay open/serve longer – more people out means more dollars for our local businesses.

10 – The first few days feels like the days are going so quick. How is it 5pm already?!?

11 – We don’t have to wake up early to watch Test matches played over east in the Summer.

12 – Working back late? Your day won’t be ruined you will still be able to get out and enjoy our amazing weather with friends/family.

13 – Sure you lose an hour’s sleep the first day of daylight saving, but that means your 1-hour closer to your morning coffee. Turning a negative into a positive.

14 – We can all save on power. Having the sun last longer into the night would mean we wouldn’t have to use power to light the house from 7pm. Better for the environment and better on the pocket.

15 – Footy teams can have an extra hour of training during preseason before it gets dark. We need all the help we can get!

16 – Most importantly we don’t have to keep saying that we need daylight savings! Let’s just do it.
