Craving Perth’s best continental rolls? Here are our top 5 continental rolls in Perth.

Where to find Perth’s best continental rolls? Well read on and treat yourself to Perth’s best iconic continental rolls.

When it comes to an iconic Western Australian sandwich, the continental roll definitely meets the brief. It might be the birth child of European (particularly Italian) fare, but it has embedded itself into our culture like it always belonged to do so.

A crusty roll, Italian deli meats, cheese and salad. It’s a pretty simple combination, and yet it can bring us all to our knees.

There are many versions floating about Perth, but we’ve narrowed down to five of the best in our opinion. You may have tried better – perhaps at the likes of The Black Truffle, Del Basso or somewhere else. But these beauties are well worth shouting out.

Or forget that and just get your gob around them.

Passione Gourmet Deli

Neighbourhood joint Passione Gourmet Deli brings a slice of European heaven to Kingsley.

The counter is stocked full of sandwiches, rolls, salads, and ready to heat and eat dishes. Beyond that there’s piles of cured meats, cheeses, pastas and so on. It’s a visual foodie feast, and your eyes will be jumping out of your head the moment you walk inside. Grab a continental roll and sit outside in the sunshine like the locals do: it’s the ultimate way to enjoy what is a damn good dish.

The Re Store

The masses head to The Re Store in Leederville or Northbridge for lunch during the week or weekend, and we can see why: their continental roll game is extremely strong.

The ladies and men behind the counter at the store are stacking your roll high upon order, and you can choose not just from the endless array of meats they have stocked, but also freshly cooked chicken cutlets – which are an Italian specialty that puts all schnitzels to shame.

Grab your roll to take away, but make sure you stroll through the store filled to the brim with European products and goods.

Scutti

Trading from 7am to 7pm seven days a week, Scutti Markets on Angelo offers customers the choice of fine, fresh and seasonal produce.

The deli meats here are expansive, ranging from kangaroo salami to free range ham, parma prosciutto and jamon iberico. What more could you want than to layer up delicious treats inside your crunchy freshly baked roll to then devour?

Charlie’s Fresh Food Market

Located on the corner of Beechboro and Walter Road in Morley, Charlie’s Fresh Food Market is a European good’s shopping mecca.

The deli cabinet spans 30 meters and is full of fresh cold meats, cheeses and olives. But it’s the on-site Charlie’s Fresh Café that is responsible for one of Perth’s best continental rolls.

Sit down and take your time to munch away while sipping on a freshly brewed coffee – then finish up with a cheeky scoop of gelato to make your meal complete. Not that you really need it, the roll full of sliced meats, lettuce, tomato and carrot is worth it alone.

Lo Presti & Son

Family-run Italian grocer Lo Presti & Son was established in 1932 as the Fremantle General Store before moving to East Fremantle in 1964 where it has remained until today.

The continental rolls and other delights are available to locals on UberEats, or you can head in store and get your fix in person – which means you can also peruse the aisles for other goods to take home for later too. Run, don’t walk, as this port side joint is well worth the commute.

Di Chiera Bros

While this list is the top five, we wanted to include a special shout out to Di Chiera Bros which sadly broke continental roll loving hearts around Perth when they closed.

Rumour is the venue is reopening again, so until that day we’ll keep waiting with baited breath and grumbly bellies. With over 60 years in the business, a stint being highlighted on Action Bronson’s show F**k That’s Delicious, and a high volume of customers flocking there on the regular, it’s no wonder this venue has gathered many an avid follower.
