Margaret River brewery Colonial Brewing Co opens in Melbourne.

cbco-launch6On Wednesday, November 23rd 2016, Colonial Brewing Co launched their new core range of craft beers to Melbourne and Australia through a unique beer and dining experience, held at their Port Melbourne brewery.

Some of you might know that I am a BIG fan of Colonial Brewing (see here and here… and here), so it would come as no surprise that I was excited to be there for the official launch into Melbourne and the eastern seaboard.

The night was hosted by beer personality and blogger Kirrily Waldhorn and attended by numerous other special guest and a couple of premiership Western Bulldogs players Easton Wood and Jordan Roughead.

We were treated to beer infused menu designed by chef Lindsay Jamison, as well as sampling each of the newly launched core craft beers, including my favourite the classic Draught (Kolsh), I.P.A., Pale Ale, and Small Ale.

cbco-launch3The evening was styled as a modern beer garden within the working brewery and it was great to see that they haven’t hidden the brewery away, which really adds to Colonial’s character of being fun and open to everyone.

cbco-launch2Guests were sat under a canopy forest of eucapltyus trees while enjoying an acoustic set by Gena Rose Bruce, followed by a demonstration of live art and interview with artist & Colonial Brewing Co collaborator, Ian Mutch – the designer of their Small Ale can artwork.

cbco-launch7Guests were invited to watch a short film, explaining the brand’s Margaret River origins, where Colonial Brewing Co tapped its first keg in 2004, and how today that little brewery is now poised to take over Australia.

Colonial Brewing Co’s national general manager, Lawrence Dowd, addressed and welcomed guests, going on to explain how off the back of their success at home in WA, Colonial Brewing Co was then able to open their Port Melbourne brewery, allowing them to triple their production capacity and now bring their delicious and unique craft beers to the east coast.

cbco-launch5“Port Melbourne is home to the East side of brewing. Inspired by music, Melbourne’s laneways and the dynamic craft beer market, Colonial Brewing Co is a small brewery living the big city life. Our brewers here are local guys making local beers, inspired by the ever-changing craft beer culture” he said.

The Colonial Brewing Pale Ale can is the ultimate thirst crusher!

It was safe to say there were many DT’s (Delicious Tins) cracked on the night.

The brewery has also pioneered the trend of canning in favour of bottles within the Australian craft beer industry, as one of the only brands delivering their premium product in the more sustainable, cost effective and conscientious choice of cans. Their focus on innovation has also led them to become the first Australian brewery to introduce 360 lids into market across a majority of their range, allowing consumers to remove the entire lid of the can to imitate the ideal beer drinking experience in a convenient way; through a glass allowing the beer to appropriately aerate.

“We are for the people. We’re not just for hipsters, or surfers or beer snobs. Our brewers are regular blokes who love and brew good beer” said Lawrence Dowd, National General Manager at Colonial Brewing Co.

After dinner and the speeches from Lawrence and the Colonial brewers completed, we were taken on a quick tour of the brewery and lucky enough to have the canning machine switched on, allowing a few lucky people to grab and tip a beer down straight off the line – you can’t get much fresher than that!

cbco-launch8Not to mention they have their very own beer pong table, which will no doubt be the most popular table at the brewery.

If you haven’t tried Colonial Brewing Co beers yet the core beer price range sits between $60.00 – $70.00 per carton and can be purchased directly at CBCO breweries, as well as at select Bottlemarts & other independent liquor stores.
