You’ve no doubt heard of and probably visited the Swan Valley, but have you checked out Guildford?

Established in 1829, it has some of Western Australia’s oldest history and it’s right on Perth’s doorstop.

You can easily spend a day wandering around the quaint town, taking in the historic buildings and strolling along one of the 4 heritage trails winding through the streets.

However, what I love so much about Guildford are the numerous bars and restaurants to suit any occasion and any crowd – here are just a few to check out next time you visit Guildford.

9 reasons to love Guildford

Rose and Crown

The picturesque Rose and Crown is not only has a gorgeous setting but is the oldest hotel in Western Australia. It’s also the 3rd oldest licensed hotel in Australia! It has 3 restaurants and 3 bars, including a haunted underground cellar which can be hired for parties and functions – if you’re brave enough!

They have an in-house pastry chef so if you’re dreaming of a proper afternoon tea, you won’t be disappointed at the Rose and Crown.

Padbury’s Café

Padburys Cafe Restaurant is a Guildford institution.

No visit to the town is complete without a sumptuous brunch, afternoon tea or even a dinner at this historic building. The building is heritage listed which gives it a quaint feel, and the menu features brekkie favourites like smashed avo and their own specialties such as the delicious Padbury’s Hash.

There are even sharing boards on the dinner menu and a well-priced kids menu too.

Padbury’s is perfect for any time and any occasion.

The Guildford Hotel

The refurbished, The Guildford Hotel is a pub and bar which wouldn’t look out of place in a trendy CBD location. It was the victim of a fire back in 2008 and as part of the rebuild, they’ve managed to retain some of the charred beams in the floor, original fireplaces and doors too.

The drinks menu includes 18 beers on tap as well as bottled beer options and an extensive wine list that focuses on local wines from the Swan Valley and across WA.

Their revamped menu definitely hits the mark with a variety of snacks and mains that will match everyone’s taste – why not take on the loaded chicken parma!

Little Guildford

Little Guildford describes itself as a modern Australian café in rustic-chic surroundings.

They’re open for breakfast and lunch brunch 7 days a week – making it an easy choice for a catch-up with friends.

Another treat at Little Guildford is that the menus are ever-evolving, based on the seasons and offer something for everyone.

So each time you visit Little Guildford (and you will be back multiple times) could be a different experience.

Little Vines

Just off the streets of Guildford, you will find a new hidden gem – Little Vines.

Just when you thought Guildford couldn’t get any better a sneaky venue popped up.

Serving up delicious local produce paired with local beers and wine, the Little Vines is the perfect place to enjoy the late afternoon sun or take in the stars under the vines.

Alfred’s Kitchen

If you’re into your burgers, then you can’t go past Alfred’s Kitchen.

It’s recently become even more family-friendly with the addition of a restored train carriage and courtyard for extra seating. It’s the longest-running roadside burger kitchen in Perth – it’s been operating since 1946!

Alfred’s is a WA icon and if you haven’t tried an Alfred’s burger yet then I suggest you better get to it!

A popular little breakfast & lunch café in Guildford, the Guildford Milk Bar does a mean all-day breakfast. They also have a great selection of Asian dishes on offer. Like a bit of heat in your food? Ask for their secret chilli to be added to your dish! If you’re after a quick bite to eat while on the run, they do a range of take away options too.

Situated on the Swan Street strip, Louie’s Pizza & Grill is a more recent addition to the Guildford scene. It’s alfresco dining gives you the chance to sit and watch Guildford go by and on cold winters night you can keep warm near the fire – just like at Alfred’s.

As for the pizza?

Their pizza oven was imported from Italy and the dough is made fresh daily, so if you’re looking for an authentic Italian pizza experience, you can’t go wrong with Louie’s. Hands down some of the best pizza in Perth.
