Despite the new cases confirmed today, some Perth COVID-19 restrictions are to be lifted as of Tuesday 6am.

Dancing, music festivals, major events, and standing consumption can resume.

“Public health restrictions around seated consumption only and dancing will be lifted. However, due to the ongoing concerns the indoor market requirements will remain in place until at least 6pm Friday.” says Amber-Jade Sanderson.

Perth COVID-19 restrictions to be in place:

  • Masks will be mandatory in all public indoor settings, including workplaces, shopping centres, hospitality venues and public transport
  • The mask mandate will not apply to the home, and will not apply for people doing vigorous indoor exercise
  • We are recommending masks be worn outside when you cannot physically distance – so we are urging people to use common sense
  • In addition, the mask rules will also apply to anyone who has been in Perth or Peel since Thursday, 16 December and are now located in a different part of the State

Proof of vaccination requirements

Following the successful trial at the Perth Cup, the WA government will be extending proof of vaccination requirements to higher risk events and venues, to help them take place safely.

These higher-risk venues and events include:

  • Nightclubs
  • Music festivals and major events, of more than 500 patrons – where mask wearing will also be required outdoors
  • Pubs, taverns, hotels (hospitality) and special facility licenses with more than 500 capacity, or these specific licensed venues that trade after midnight
  • Events with an occasional liquor license
  • Crown gaming floor

The proof of vaccination requirement will be ongoing, as we are effectively bringing forward what would be the case under an updated Safe Transition Plan – as a result of Omicron.

Vaccination Recap

92% of Western Australians who are eligible have now received the first dose of the vaccines and we have now over 84.5% have received at least two doses – inching are closes to the 90% double dose vaccination milestone.

Will WA open the border on February 5th?

When asked whether Western Australia is still on track to open borders on February 5th,WA Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson stated they are still working to this date despite on-going high number of confirmed cases on the east coast.

With this date in mind,Amber-Jade Sanderson suggested that restrictions would most likely be in place come February 5th.

“We do expect that there will be mask-wearing and other public health social measures.”

More to come.
