6 Delicious DIY Wine Cocktails for Summer
1. Pear Prosecco
Anyone into their bubbles will know that when it comes to good fizz that won’t break the bank, Prosecco is the number one choice.
Put a modern twist on this Italian classic by adding a tablespoon of ginger syrup (from a jar of stem ginger) to your glass and topping with 30ml pear juice and prosecco to your liking.
2. Frosé
Frosé has taken off in the last year here in Perth and it’s not hard to understand why – its rosé but frozen!
Making it at home has never been easier with this super simple frose recipe from Perth’s very own wine blogger, The Travelling Corkscrew.
3. French 75
If you prefer your wine with a side of gin and who doesn’t really?!, the French 75 is for you.
Shake up a shot of gin, a tablespoon of lemon juice and half a tablespoon of sugar syrup with some ice. Strain into a champagne glass and garnish with some lemon peel.
4. Aperol Spritz
This wine cocktail has been popular in Italy for decades and has also now become a staple across Perth bars and restaurants.
Mix 3 parts Prosecco with 2 parts Aperol and a dash of soda to make the perfect Aperol Spritz.
5. Watermelon & Mint Sangria
Sangria doesn’t have the best reputation in the wine cocktail world, but this summery twist gives it a new lease on life.
Combine 4 cups of fresh watermelon juice with a handful of mint leaves, a bottle of rose wine, a cup of vodka, a cup of orange juice and half a cup of Cointreau. Add orange and lime slices and watermelon balls to make it look gorgeous too.
6. Matcha Honey Spritzer
While you might associate matcha with tea, it can also make an interesting wine cocktail. Mix ¼ teaspoon of matcha with warm water until dissolved. Stir in 1 tablespoon of honey then add ice, 1/3rd cup dry white wine and ¼ cup of ginger ale.
If you fancy trying your hand at some of these wine cocktails and want some boutique local wines, the gorgeous Swan Valley is right on our doorstep, just 30 mins from the city centre. You’re sure to find some little gems that would be ideal for a wine cocktail or two. If you can’t make it to the Swan Valley in person, most local bottle shops carry a selection of great local WA wines too.
