A Perth icon for decades, 78 Records is shutting down.
After 47-years selling vinyl, EPS and CDs to the people of Perth, 78 Records in the Perth CBD is closing it’s doors.
In an Instagram post, 78 Records announced that March 3rd will be their final day of trade.
The store said they were forced out of business due to the perceived weak retail market, competition from digital streaming services and “the expense of physical product.”
Independent PERTH Radio Station RTR FM said:
“78’s was the place to go to find that wonderfully rare album, a top 40 hit, a brand new local release or that golden gem you needed for your collection. “
“Who remembers hanging out upstairs of their Hay Street store as local bands played or marvelling at the oversized ploysterine album covers? Thanks for the tunes 78’s. “

A sad day for the owners and employees of 78 Records in the Perth CBD. The store thanked customers and supporters.
“We thank all our customer, past and present, for their patronage,” Andrew ‘Fang’ de Lang wrote.
“It has been a pleasure to have played a considerable and significant part in the WA retail music industry since 1971.”
