Will there be a new king of the west?

West Coast has often been the kings of the west, however with some big retirements and a move to a new stadium and Freo’s youth movement on track will Freo dethrone West Coast in 2018?

8 reasons why Fremantle Dockers are better than West Coast

1 – Fyfe

This is a no-brainer – Fyfe is not only the best player in the state but could be the best player in the AFL this year.

Fyfe’s unstoppable presence in the midfield and the rumours that he will play added time in the forward line (much like Dangerfield and Martin) could see Fyfe have his biggest year yet.

2 – Purple Haze

One thing that is undeniable is the Fremantle Dockers fans passion.

When you got to a West Coast game there is a see of navy blue, yellow, royal blue etc. But when you are at a Fremantle Dockers game the Purel Haze is in full effect.

3 – Youth

Fremantle started a rebuild and the future and it is looking bright – very bright.

Sean Darcy a young star ruck in the making to fill the massive shoes of Sandilands, Cam McCarthy the young spearhead forward, top draft pick Andrew Brayshaw added to the engine room and Griffin Logue who will become the main cog of the Fremantle backline.

Good days ahead!

4 – Hills

It’s hard to stop the run of both Brad and Stephen Hill not to mention West Coast don’t even have a Hill anymore.

5 – Defence

One thing Fremantle has been known for since Ross The Boss has been in charge is defence. Fremantle has a knack for being able to shut down opposing teams with their trademark defence and pressure.

Fremantle’s game plan is to hold the opposition to less than you, compared to West Coast’s which is to score more than the opposition.

6 – Sandilands

As they say, you can’t teach height and Sandilands has plenty of it.

When Sandilands is up and about there is no ruck in the competition that can stop him from palming the ball straight down to his teammates, allowing Fremantle mids to run rampant.

7 – No Subi No Worries

West Coast has struggled to win away from Subiaco for many years now – Fremantle, on the other hand, are no strangers to wins in Melbourne. The different size grounds and travel don’t seem to matter to Fremantle.

8 – Walters

West Coast has long craved a high pace goalsneak to sit at the feet of JK, this season they are are hoping Rioli and Ryan might fill this void.

Fremantle however already have one of the best in the league. The x-factor of Fremantle, Walters can change the game instantly with his pace, skills and goal sense.
