Perth Hills Wine Tour – Iso Style

We all know that we can’t do some things right now (coz of the Rona) and unfortunately wine tastings are one of them!

But since ISO drinking is definitely a thing – and events are going virtual there’s heaps of great ways you and binge your boredom away with booze. In moderation of course.

The idea of this tour is that it’s almost like being there and in case you missed it, here’s the lowdown on the first of a series of Isolation Libation virtual tours from the fab folks at Hidden DeTours – a wine tour through the gorgeous Bickley Valley.

So strap in, pour yourself a tipple and be prepared to go behind the scenes as you meet the makers of the wine the Perth Hills region is famous for!

Stops 1 & 2

The first two stops are in one live stream because they’re literally across the road from one another.

Stop 1 and stop 2 on the ISO Wine Tour to Tonon Vineyard and Winery and Fairbrossen Winery

The first virtual tour in our Isolation Libation Series was the ISO Wine Tour to the beautiful Bickley Carmel Valley. Up first we visited the fabulous Tonon Vineyard & Winery and chatted with owner and winemaker Dan about his winery and how he brought Prosecco to WA. We went on to discuss his delicious range of wine and in particular his featured wines below:* 2018 Seven Sticks Prosecco* 2019 FianoWe said goodbye to Dan, jumped in the bus and drove right across the road to the amazing Fairbrossen Winery. We were greeted by Matt the owner and winemaker, as he took us behind the scenes to chat about his amphora, followed by a juicy discussion about his featured wines below:* Fairbrossen Tempranillo* Sideproject Saperavi

Tonon Winery and Fairbrossen – what an incredible way to start the day!

At Tonon we hear from owner and winemaker Dan about how they brought Prosecco into Australia, their Fiano and the history behind this family run winery.

At Fairbrossen owner Matt shows us around, gets his hands dirty, and generally nerds out about wine and how he makes it “smashable”.

There was also some soil rivalry between Tonon and Fairbrossen…wine nerds will want to grab some wines from these vineyards across the road from each other and compare the difference a few feet makes on a grape.

Next Stop: Carldenn Homestead

At Carldenn we meet Bickley Valley icon Dennis, and a huge metal scarecrow named Dionysus (after the Greek god of wine).

Stop 3 we chatted with Dennis at Carldenn Homestead Wines

Stop 3 on our ISO Wine Tour we dropped in to chat with the lovely Dennis at Carldenn Homestead Wines. We had a yarn about the Bickley Harvest Festival, his wine philosophy and his tasty featured wines:* Sparkling Wine* Merlot

Then there’s only one last winery on the tour.

The Final Destination – La Fattoria: The Farm

Lucy and Eric show you through La Fattoria (which means The Farm in Italian) where they grow grapes and also other fruit like apples.

You’ll get some history on the property and how it’s a history of their family, the low-down on the home-style food offerings (not available at the time of publishing) and a walk through the winery when the sun is hitting the hills just right!

Stop 7 we visited Eric and Lucy at La Fattoria where we ended the ISO Wine Tour

Stop 7 on our ISO Wine Tour was the beautiful La Fattoria Perth Hills where we were greeted at the front door by Eric and Lucy. By the time we chatted about the rich history of the property, discussed the scrumptious dishes at Nonna's family table and spoke about their wine range, we already felt a part of the family. ?Eric went into more detail about their Limoncello and the following delicious featured wines:* Sparkling Pignoletto* Nero D'avolaThe sun was dipping in the distance and the last rays were making their colourful mark on the vines, as the birds chirped nearby. It was an amazing end to our first virtual tour and we were so happy and content!

Posted by Hidden Detours on Saturday, 25 April 2020

Lucy and Eric discuss their Mediterranean wine varieties and go in detail about the Sparkling Pignoletto and the Nero D’avola.

The tour ends there, on the lush lawns of ‘The Farm’ with the sun dipping in the sky, and if you’ve followed along you’ve ‘visited’ 7 wineries in an epic day of virtual wine tasting!

Cheers!
