The Dockers may finally get their first win of the season! I don’t want to jinx them though…

The Fremantle Dockers take on Carlton at home on Sunday which will hopefully *fingers crossed* get them their first 4 points of the season. Despite last week’s loss against North Melbourne, I saw some glimmers of hope from the Freo players.

The Dockers have been rocked by a couple of big injuries this season, Aaron Sandilands out with a punctured lung and broken ribs, and skipper David Mundy struggling with a calf issue. Both players are looked up to by the rest of the team (literally in Sandi’s case!) and it would be difficult, and a little disheartening, to run out on the field without them.

However, as I said above, I saw some positive plays last week. I am super proud of Freo’s young guns Lachie Weller, Alex Pearce and Ed Langdon who ALWAYS give 100%. You can tell that they want to be out there playing good footy and they are doing everything they can to get picked each week. And it shows! They have heart. Another one to watch is Brady Grey who got the call up for his first game this week. I watched him in a NAB cup game earlier in the year and was impressed with his efforts around the ground. Zac Clarke is a helpful inclusion back into the side this week, returning from a knee injury that he suffered in round one.

lachieI think we will see Michael Walters have a big game this week. He and Hayden Ballantyne kicked 2 goals each against the Kangaroo’s and I’m hoping they will keep things rolling in the forward line this week. Nat Fyfe was a shining light for the Dockers last week kicking 4 goals with 27 possessions. It has been said in the past that the only thing that can let Fyfe down during a game is his goal kicking accuracy however, kicking 4.0 against the Roo’s suggests he has been doing some extra work in front of goal at training. Hooray!

Fremantle need to win this and need to win by LOTS to bump their percentage up a bit. Both teams have had a terrible start the season. The last time Carlton had a 0-5 start to the season was wayyyyy back in 1989 (a good year though, yours truly was born hehe) and I can’t imagine they will want to fall victim to that again. Unfortunately for them, I think history will repeat itself on Sunday.

I am tipping Fremantle Dockers to beat Carlton by 30 points.
