#AFLFreoSwans: Fremantle Dockers vs Sydney Swans

This round we commemorate the 100th year of the landing at Gallipoli and recognise the men and women who have and continue to serve our country. We have a big game in the West this ANZAC Day weekend with the Dockers taking on Sydney Swans at Domain Stadium on Saturday, bounce down at 6.45pm.

If the past is anything to go by, this should be a belter of a game! With big, bad Buddy Franklin powering through Sydney’s forward line, the Dockers back line is going to have to give everything they’ve got to keep Buddy out of the game.

All-Australian defenders Michael Johnson, who just signed on with Freo for another two years, and Luke McPharlin are more than capable to keep Buddy quiet and I hope they can get it done on Saturday.

Both teams have top quality midfielders, but I think the Dockers midfield is in better form than Sydney’s. If Freo can efficiently move the ball forward from the middle and into their 50 they should have the advantage over the Swans.

In saying that, Sydney’s Josh Kennedy has been particularly good in the midfield in the first three rounds showing excellent stats in contested possessions and clearances. The Swans midfield also includes Kieran Jack and Jarrad McVeigh, the trio all having been selected in the All-Australian team in the past.

My prediction is that it’s going to be a very fast and intense game of footy and I tip Dockers to win by 10 points. As it’s a Dockers home game, the supporters will really get behind them (as always) and I think it will give the team the lift they will need to get over the line. I think the game will be won in the midfield so my fingers are crossed that Freo’s Nat Fyfe, Steven hill, David Mundy and Lachie Neale all come with their game faces on!

And just in case anyone was wondering… West Coast Eagles will be playing the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. With the public holiday on Monday, Eagles supporters can drown their sorrows Sunday night if the Lions have a win. For the record, I did tip the Eagles so let’s hope they come through with the goods.

Until next time!
