Get up and close with animal encounters in the Swan Valley.

Just driving through the Swan Valley you can spot kangaroos, emus, cows, sheep, horses and even an alpaca or two but if you want to get up close there are a few places you can stop.

Cuddly Animal Farm

Pack your picnic and head to the Cuddly Animal Farm on John Street in Henley Brook.

This farm is great for a more relaxed animal experience. Set up on a shady picnic table before heading off to explore the nearby sheds and paddocks.

Anytime during the day you can join in the feeding of the rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, chickens, ducks, geese and kangaroos. Help bottle feed the lambs, kids, calves and piglets at 10.30am and 3pm daily and milk the goats at 11.30am.

There is more to do here than just visit the animals. They have a fenced playground, undercover bouncy castle, free tractor rides every day, free merry-go-round and free BBQ facilities. Parents can even grab a tea or coffee from the farm urn.

The Cuddly Animal Farm is open 9.30am – 4pm every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Entry costs are $18 for adults, $13 for children aged 2-15 years and $13 for concession.

Caversham Wildlife Park

Caversham Wildlife Park is a family owned business located in Whiteman Park with a range of native Australian animals plus Molly’s Farm.

The layout is designed so you can walk around each section without missing a thing. The native animals are grouped by their area of Australia with North, North-East, South-West and South-East areas, the Kangaroo Walkthrough and Molly’s Farm all to explore.

The Kangaroo Walkthrough is a must stop where you can pat and feed the kangaroos located there. It’s a large area that has a variety of kangaroos and wallabies. In the gazebo there is a big bin filled with kangaroo food pellets you can help yourself to for feeding the animals. Kids might be better off starting with the little wallabies to feed if they are a bit unsure.

Over at Molly’s Farm say hello to Snowy the Llama before hitting the barn to get up close with some farm animals. Under 5s can go into some of the pens with guinea pigs, rabbits and chickens here before taking a walk through the paddocks to see some of the larger animals. They also do a farm show demonstrating sheep shearing, lamb feeding, meet a stockman, milk a cow, whip cracking and more!

Near Molly’s Farm is the Wombat area. Open multiple times a day you can get a photo with a wombat, hold a snake, meet a possum and some beautiful birds. The wombat photos are very popular so be prepared to line up for a while on busy days.

The other very popular photo opportunity is meeting the koalas. The koalas are on trees around shoulder height and you can take as many photos as you like next to them. These are only half hour sessions as koalas love to sleep!

There are a lot of areas to sit and relax while looking at the animals plus a kiosk to grab a bite to eat and a cold drink or treat.

Caversham Wildlife Park is open 7 days a week from 9am – 5.30pm every day of the year except Christmas Day.

Admission price is $28 for adults and $12.50 for children between 3-14 years. Student and aged pension $20.
