THE WEST IS BEST! Perth Scorchers are the Kings of the Big Bash.

Congratulations to the BBL Perth Scorchers team on an awesome BBL06 Championship win over the Sydney Sixers! This is their THIRD Championship win in 6 seasons, and once again proves to the rest of the country what an incredible franchise they are.

Scorchers stats from the last 6 BBL seasons:

BBL01 – Runners Up
BBL02 – Runners Up
BBL03 – Champions
BBL04 – Champions
BBL05 – Semi Finalist
BBL06 – Champions

Holy heck! The Big Bash League is a lot of things. Exciting, entertaining, fun, and an incredible display of talent. One thing that it is not meant to be is consistent. I think the Perth Scorchers missed that memo because one thing that they have been in the last 6 season is consistent. Consistently good! Not only are they the most successful team in the BBL, they are the most successful T20 team IN THE WORLD. No other T20 franchise has been able to replicate their success over an extended period of time.

The Scorchers accomplishments have never come easy. They have lost players due to injury, international duties and players jumping ship to play for other BBL teams, aka Brad Hogg. I think one of the things that makes the Scorchers such a powerful force is that there is not just one or two big names who do all the work. Their range of contributors is enviable and coach Justin Langer has obviously found the formula that works.

The Scorchers won the toss and elected to bowl, and what a dream start it was for the home team. The Sixers were put under immediate pressure when Daniel Hughes (8), Nic Maddinson (1) and Michael Lumb (5) were all dismissed and Sydney was sitting on 3-17. The Sixers managed to rebuild with the help of veteran Brad Haddin (38) and Johan Botha (32) and finished on a total of 9-141.

Mitch Johnson continued his epic form from the semi-final and finished with 1-13 however, it was Jhye Richardson who put the nails in the Sixers’ coffin, finishing on 3-30 and earning himself the Player of the Match for his incredible efforts.

Sam Whiteman (41 from 21) and Michael Klinger (71no from 49) opened the batting for the Scorchers and generated a great partnership of 75 to set Perth on their road to victory. Whiteman was eventually stumped and England import Ian Bell (31no of 25) resumed the Scorchers charge to the Championship, finishing the Sixers with 25 balls to spare.
