The City of Perth Act passes Parliament. What it means for Perth?
The City of Perth will expand and take 3,000 residents from the City of Subiaco and land from the City of Nedlands, after the passing of the City of Perth Act today.
The City of Perth boundaries will change to include Kings Park, The University of Western Australia, QE II Hospital and the new Perth Children’s Hospital as well as hundreds of homes and businesses on the western fringe of Perth City.
The new structure also has big implications for the local economy and future growth, with Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffifi saying the new legal framework “signals a new beginning in the State’s history.”
“From 1 July 2016, the City of Perth act will bring Perth in line with other Australian capital cities and acknowledges its central role in tourism, business and economic development,” Scaffidi said.
