Palmer has day in High Court.

Mining mogul Clive Palmer will have his case against the WA Government heard in court today.

It comes after the Federal Court found the WA border was in fact the best protection against COVID-19 making its way into the State earlier this year.

But Mr Palmer vowed to take the matter onwards to the High Court, saying the hard border was “unconstitutional” after his exemption application to travel into the State was rejected early this year.

This was followed by Mr Palmer announcing he would sue Premier Mark McGowan for defamation, arguing he “embarrassed” the billionaire.

However, Mr McGowan hit back with a lawsuit of his own just weeks later, claiming he was slandered by Mr Palmer who called him and his Government “criminals”.

Mr McGowan said today he was “very confident” Mr Palmer would be defeated in his High Court case.

“These were life saving initiatives we put in place, he said.

“Mr Palmer tried to tear them down.”

Since Mr Palmer launched his case, the WA Government announced the hard border would end on November 14.

Residents from all States and Territories but Victoria and NSW will be able to travel into WA from then without quarantining.
