“We are in this situation for the long haul for at least the next six months.” Mark McGowan

After recently announcing a $607 million stimulus package to pause utility increase and provide support to WA small business, Mark McGown at the end of the press conference has hinted at more stimulus packages to come from the WA Government and perhaps Federal Government sighting that they need to do more to help the economy.

After the release of the initial stimulus the general public of Perth while happy with no increase to power, water and gas charges were still wondering how they were going to afford to pay the current bills, regardless of potential future increases given the uncertainty of the economic situation we are facing.

“It is tragic for small business and for workforce what is going on, in particular the hospitality and retail sectors and their suppliers.

With another 4 confirmed cases announced this morning WA’s total now sits at 35.

However, there is still significant risk ahead as Mr Cook commented on the possibility of community transmission said:

“At end of day a very fluid situation and we can’t absolutely say there is not someone out there that has contracted the virus through community spread.”

Andy Robertson Chief Health Officer provided further context on the significance of community transition saying once community transmission takes hold, it is expected the number of WA cases will “double every 3 to 5 days.”

At least, for now, there could be more assistance to be provided for the WA community coming soon. However, if we are indeed in this for the long hall challenging times do indeed lie ahead for all of WA and Australia.

Be safe and be kind.
