Set only 27 kilometres from Perth, Joondalup is a place where boast-worthy food and drink, arts and culture, and entertainment collide. In terms of getting there, the destination is easily accessed via the Joondalup train line — with the station nestled right in the city’s heart. Once you’re in town, the free CAT bus is a great way to move around.

This day trip itinerary is all about exploring the murals throughout the Joondalup City Centre. From hidden gems to local businesses worthy of a gander, we’ve rounded up the best places to eat, drink, and visit to spend the ultimate day in Joondalup.
8:00 am: Breakfast at Little Jaspi
Start your day trip with a takeaway bagel and coffee from Little Jaspi. This cosy little coffee shop is tucked away in the back streets of Joondalup City Centre and is far too good to gatekeep. There’s plenty to choose from, whether you’re craving one of the many bagels on offer, a breakfast wrap or smashed avocado.
9:00 am: The Gathering By Stormie Mills
Joondalup is home to street art aplenty. Begin by exploring The Gathering, a piece by visual artist, Stormie Mills. A private commission by the building owner’s, this piece brings vibrancy to Central Walk. Nestled in the heart of the Joondalup CBD, Central Walk stars a variety of eateries, arts, and shopping.
9:30 am: Jack Bromell
Next, check out Stamp Series, a vibrant collaboration between Jack Bromell, Blank Walls, and the City of Joondalup. It’s a trail of eight mini murals featuring wildlife from around Lake Joondalup and dotted throughout the Joondalup City Centre.
10:00 am: Anya Brock
For more arts and culture, head to the portico of Joondalup Library to view Anya Brock’s well-known bold expressive lines and signature kaleidoscopic colour palette. These murals were commissioned as part of the Urban Couture program in 2016.
10:30 pm: Woah Jonny (Jon Ismailovski)
Jump in your car, leave the Joondalup City Centre, and head to the Eddystone Avenue Underpass to explore a 40-metre mural by Jon Ismailovski. The concept for the mural design was developed with the help of year five students at Eddystone Primary School. The students created hybrid animals through a series of three workshops, fashioning both their physical appearance, and behavioural traits. Ismailovski then used these animals to inspire the vision of his own design.
11:00 pm: Brunch at Grounded Café
After taking in all the stunning murals and snapping a couple of selfies along the way, head to the coast and stop by Grounded Café at North Shore Country Club for a quick brunch. Or, refuel with one of their delicious homemade baked goods.
12:00 pm: Amok Island
The northern car park at Marmion Angling and Aquatic Club is where you will find Amok Island’s Marine Life of Marmion Marine Park mural. The mural was designed with extensive research including time spent in Marmion Marine Park photographing marine creatures. The artist then created his contemporary interpretation drawing inspiration from vintage and scientific identification charts. From invertebrates, crustaceans, and molluscs to fish and marine mammals, the mural depicts a selection of iconic marine fauna found in the area.
2:00 pm: Hillarys Boat Harbour
After a busy day trip spent exploring the murals around the City of Joondalup, head to Hillarys Boat Harbour and take some time to chill. Whether you’d like to peruse the stores, relax on the beach or people watch with food and drink at one of the many alfresco eateries, there are loads of ways to while away the hours.
