Perth’s New Bar Curate Brings Picasso, Da Vinci, and Van Gogh to the Glass

A new kind of gallery has landed in Northbridge — and it’s serving cocktails instead of canvases.

Perth’s newest bar opened its doors last Monday, bringing with it art-inspired cocktails, locally sourced dishes, and a setting that leans into the neighbourhood’s creative heartbeat. It’s pitched as more than a bar — a place where locals, artists, and tourists cross paths over bold flavours and conversation.

“Curate is shaped by the same vibrant culture that makes Northbridge Perth’s leading hub for food, art and nightlife,” says Bar Manager William Brechin. “Every cocktail tells a story, every plate sparks conversation, and every night has its own rhythm.”

The cocktail menu is divided into four “artist collectives,” each drawing on the creative spirit of a master. Guests can sip through Picasso, Banksy, Van Gogh, and Da Vinci, with each section offering a distinct flavour personality. Brechin, who has spent more than a decade honing his craft across Perth, says his journey began with a Christmas gift — a cocktail book that set him on a path of flavour pairing and pushing boundaries behind the bar.

In the kitchen, Head Chef Chinmay Dandekar brings 17 years of international experience, from Dubai’s Burj Al Arab to London’s Michelin-starred Outlaw’s at the Capital. His menu is deliberately tight, expressive, and designed to complement rather than compete with the drinks.

“I wanted the food to feel like an extension of the bar — small works of art that surprise you, comfort you, and make you want to come back,” says Dandekar.

The result is a menu of refined small plates, from Ahi Tuna with edamame salad and Curate’s house yuzu dressing, to Slow-Cooked Lamb Bulgogi, and a Kimchi Cigar with gochujang emulsion. Other highlights include crispy Pistachio and Sundried Tomato Arancini with lemon mayo, and a crème caramel finished with DoubleTree cookie crumble, shortbread and Postcode honeycomb.

Capturing Northbridge’s energy

Curate leans into the creative rhythm of its neighbourhood, adding a new dimension to Northbridge’s nightlife, with cocktails that nod to the great masters and food plated as if for exhibition.

You can find Curate at 100 James Street, inside DoubleTree Northbridge.
