Perth’s newest wine bar has opened its doors, bringing a unique vineyard-cellar door feel to within minutes of the Perth CBD.
Nestled between Crown Towers and Crown Metropol, Gladstones Wine Bar boasts a carefully curated selection of Western Australia’s finest wines, with many available by the glass for the first time. The venue creates an intimate vineyard atmosphere right in the urban centre, celebrating the state’s exceptional wine-growing regions.

Gladstones is the first venue to launch at Crown Perth as part of a major property redevelopment. The Urban Food District, opening in February, will welcome up to a dozen new and diverse dining destinations.
Named after a wine industry pioneer
The venue takes its name from Dr John Gladstones AO, the prominent Western Australian agricultural scientist whose pioneering research revealed Margaret River’s potential as one of the world’s great wine-producing regions.
In the 1960s, Dr Gladstones identified striking similarities between Margaret River and Bordeaux, inspiring local landowners to cultivate what is now considered one of the world’s finest wine regions. His quiet conviction and groundbreaking work laid the foundation for an industry that has transformed Western Australia’s agricultural landscape.
His daughter, Helen Gladstones, said the family was proud to see her father’s influence recognised in this way.
“It’s lovely to see Crown recognising what he did — not loudly and not with fanfare — but with quiet conviction,” she said. “That seed he planted changed the future of wine growing in our state, laying the groundwork for something much bigger than himself. I know he’d be quietly delighted to see how far it’s come.”
The opening of Gladstones marks the beginning of Crown Perth’s transformation, with more venues set to follow when the Urban Food District launches next month.
