498 William St, Highgate WA 6003
I’m sure you’ve already heard, but Chu Bakery is whipping up some of the best pastries in Perth. Across the road from Hyde Park, it’s essential to get in early to this little corner store to avoid the long line of people all eager for a taste.
Their totally instagrammable sweet treats are perfect to grab alongside a coffee and their organic sourdough bread is an absolute crowd-pleaser. They’ve recently introduced the ‘Choco Chu’ to their daily menu as well; chocolate sable tart with salted caramel, dark chocolate ganache, chocolate mousse and chocolate chantilly cream- yes please!
North Street Store
16 North St, Cottesloe WA 6011
Cottesloe locals are a lucky bunch, considering they’ve got North Street Store cooking up some of the best cinnamon buns and hot bread right on their doorstep.
The store itself takes us back to the old corner deli times and is just a short drive down the road from the iconic Cottesloe coastline. The absolute must-tries here include their famous cinnamon buns and their toasted porchetta sandwiches.
Even more exciting, the guys behind it all are set to open a new dine-in venue in Shenton Park next year.
346 South Terrace, South Fremantle WA 6162
Hello sensitive tummies, there’s something for you too. The crew at Wild Bakery are all about traditional fermentation, making their bread easy to digest and perfect for those of us who usually have to suffer through eating crumbly gluten-free bread.
Not only this, but they’ve got a whole menu section of gluten-free options for those of us whose stomachs don’t exactly agree with a bakery feed. Their savoury bites deserve a mention too, with delicious pork and fennel sausage rolls and quality quiches featuring on the menu.
Miller + Baker
6b/236 Lake St, Perth WA 6000
On the hunt for a place that offers freshly baked bread and their own flour milled on-site? Look no further than Miller + Baker.
With a team of skilled and passionate artisans making everything from scratch on a daily basis, you can be sure you’ll find some of the best bread in Perth right here. Their classic sourdough loaf is an award winner combining the perfect tasty crust with a soft, open crumb inside. If the bread is anything to go by, their pastries also hit the mark with freshly made croissants on the daily.
While we’re on the topic of good bread, Fable has to cop a mention on this list.
This micro-brewery is praised for its traditional and organic sourdough loaves. They use only the best in organic, sustainable flour and bake loaves once or twice a month which you can pre-order on their website for delivery or pickup from a number of locations.
They also feature at farmers market pop-ups on occasion so keep your eye out if you want to grab a loaf there.
Mary Street Bakery
Of course, any good best bakeries in Perth list would have Mary Street Bakery, making a name for itself in the Perth baking community with a few shops scattered around town.
All you have to do is pop one of their pastries in your mouth and you’ll understand the hype. After trying one of their mouthwatering and everchanging doughnuts, danishes or escargots you’ll be leaving with a big smile and a satisfied belly.
It’s also the perfect place to stop for breakfast with an amazing fried chicken buttermilk pancakes and a tasty yet simple bacon and egg roll on the menu.
Lawleys Bakery Cafe
Lawleys Bakery Cafe is everything a good, simple bakery should be. They serve up great coffee, fresh bread and baked goods with an in-house bakery perfect for picking up a treat on the go.
Their freshly baked bread is a must-have to take home when you pop by. You can also find it in some supermarkets around Perth in case your nearest Lawleys is a bit to far for your liking. The range of baked goods is huge so there is no shortage of options to choose from here.
131 Barrack St, Perth WA 6000
Croissants with a delicious twist – that’s the specialty of Croff Bakehouse which has people raving about it and got our attention for the best bakeries in Perth list.
They serve up all kinds of funky, wild croissant creations with things like Peanut Butter Choc, Pumpkin Spice, Kaya Coconut, BBQ Pork and Jalapeno Cheese on the menu.
Their craziest concoction would have to be the salted egg croissant: black pastry oozing egg yolk and salted egg filling, an absolute pastry world game-changer.
19 Lathlain Place, Lathlain
A small, family-run bakery in Lathlain, Grain Bakery is one to watch.
The fact that the owners use old family-owned recipes says just about enough for the quality of food you’ll get. The apple, cinnamon and walnut sourdough is an absolute treat as is all their sourdough on the menu.
You’ll be swimming in tasty pastry treats here with a whole range of eclairs (including a pistachio raspberry), tarts and their mouthwatering choc orange cruffin (a crossiant cross muffin hybrid). They’ve also got a bolognese pie if sweet isn’t your style along with a smokey bacon crossiant- basically, they have it all.
Sugar & Nice
Shop 1/882 Beaufort St, Inglewood WA 6052
Sugar & Nice took over the cake world with their incredible, picture-perfect cake creations that put them on the map for good.
But cakes aren’t the only thing they do well, they’ve got delish cronuts on the menu along with cookies, cupcakes and brownies. You’ll be riding on a sugar high for hours after you get your hands on this place.
Bread In Common
43 Pakenham St, Fremantle WA 6160
Looking for good bread… I mean really good bread?!? If you haven’t tried Bread In Common’s wood-fired, organic bread, you can’t call yourself a real bread lover.
Worth a trip to Freo to tick off this one on our best bakeries in Perth list, their artisinal breads are prepared in volcanic-rock ovens and are crusty, fluffy and oh-so-good. Grab some of their sweet garlic butter to spread on top, and you’ve got yourself the perfect slice of bread.
Saint Georges Terrace &, Barrack St, Perth WA 6000
Look, technically it’s not a bakery- but since we’re on the topic of sweet treats, I just couldn’t finish without giving The Honeycake a mention. If you haven’t tried it before, thank me later.
After making its appearance on the foodie scene in 2013 as a market stall, they’ve now gained a cult following as a dessert destination. The famous cake is a combination of honey-flavoured layers and creamy caramel topped with walnuts and honeycake dust, and boy is it a winner. Get down and grab a box at their shop right now, or a whole cake we won’t judge.
