It really doesn’t get much better than sipping on an Aperol spritz or two while chowing down on a pizza of your favourite kind. We’ve put together a list of Perth’s best pizza joints, so you’ll have no shortage of options to sieve through!

Canteen Pizza — Applecross

In its brand-new riverside Applecross home, Canteen well and truly lives up to its promise of pizza, wine, and a real good time. If you haven’t already been, this foodie hotspot deserves to be at the top of your list. The bustling pizzeria has become a staple in the Italian food scene for its literally-perfect wood-fired pizzas and cruisy Mediterranean-inspired atmosphere. The space is warm and inviting with a neutral palette, cosy booths, and an alfresco setting peppered with umbrellas. Drink-wise, you’re covered, too — the wine list is extensive, while the aperitifs don’t disappoint.

Il Locale — Scarborough

We love handmade authentic slices, and this takeaway woodfired pizza will have you seriously considering never cooking again. Even if you’re not in the area, it’s worth the travel time. Plus, if you’ve been in the gluten-free gig for a while, you’ll know how hard it is to find a decent gluten-free pizza base — but the team at Il Locale make what is possibly the best gluten-free base in Perth.

Pizzeria Da Leo — Wembley, Dianella, and Balcatta

Pizzeria Da Leo is known for its Instagram-famous gnocchi pizza bowls — that’s right, your pasta on top of a pizza dough. If that’s not your thing, we can confirm the traditional Naples-style pizzas inside this neighbourhood joint are just as glorious. It’s not surprising, considering the recipe has been passed through generations for more than 300 years. Word to the wise: order the burrata and prosciutto pizza, and you’ll be in foodie heaven.

Monsterella — Wembley

Packed to the brim most nights of the week, it’s easy to see why Monsterella has won the hearts of so many pizza enthusiasts. Take one bite of their naturally risen, saucy-to-the-max slices, and that’s amore. Maybe it’s the San Marzano tomatoes, or maybe it’s the handmade authenticity — whatever the case, we want more. No recommendation here — you have to try them all. Every time you go, surprise yourself by choosing a different pizza from the menu. You won’t be sorry.

General Public Food Co — Scarborough and Inglewood

General Public Food Co has seriously nailed the sourdough base, and they finish it all off with some killer toppings. Think pumpkin and goat’s cheese, conti, beef brisket, and prosciutto in the cutest little indoor and outdoor dining areas.

Ruocco’s Pizzeria e Ristorante — South Fremantle

This cosy Italian restaurant oozes all things authentic, perched inside a beautiful heritage building with a large, wrap-around verandah. It’s no surprise that the South Terrace establishment has perfected the art of wood-fired pizzas, hand-made pasta, and mouth-watering desserts, as they’ve been around for more than 45 years. An evening at Ruocco’s is a one-way trip straight to the charming streets of Italy.

Pappagallo — Leederville

Unassuming from the outside, serving up banging pizzas on the inside. Pappagallo’s crisp yet light base and impeccably proportioned authentic toppings make it one of our favourite spots to hit up when we’re in Leederville. And we can’t say no to adding a cheeky Italian burrata on top.

Si Paradiso — Highgate

Technically not in Mount Lawley, but just a few steps further, the vintage Italian setting of Si Paradiso makes for the ultimate date night backdrop — and their pizza is seriously tasty. Chow down on the drool-worthy wood-fired slices among live music, greenery, and plenty of refreshing beverages, then hang around later on the weekend to dance the night away.

Alfred’s Pizzeria — Perth

This is a late-night institution that needs no introduction. Sometimes pizza is best served after a night out on the town, and the funky little underground hideout of Alfred’s Pizzeria knows just how to hit the spot. Get your hands on loaded meaty slices and cheeseburger-style creations either by the slice or as a whole, then keep the party going with cocktails, tunes, and plenty of spirits. Our pick here is the Big Al — you can thank us later.

Simple Italian — Perth and Applecross

Simple Italian sticks to the authentic recipes from Roma with three generations working under one roof, headlined by Grandfather Antonio running the kitchen with his daughter, Francesca. It’s fresh, it’s tasty, and it’s as close to a true Italian pizza as you can get. They have some 25 options to choose from, so you’re sure to find a topping you like. Our recommendation is the Calabrese — always our first pick and goes down like a treat.

Eugene’s Pizzeria — East Fremantle

We’re pretty jealous of East Fremantle’s George Street locals who live just a few minutes from this place. Think hand-stretched pizza bases left to ferment for 72 hours and cooked to perfection, with local ingredients on top for a burst of fresh flavour. Eugene’s is another hard-hitter deserving of your pizza bucket list.

King Somm — Bayswater

Slide into a cosy nook at King Somm and settle in for a glass and slice. The local bar, bottle shop, and neighbourhood pizzeria is set against the backdrop of a hundred-year-old billiards hall, and although the pizza menu is rather small, they’re all 10/10 in quality.

Lola’s — Fremantle

Lola’s is a family-friendly pizzeria, by the same crew who run the beloved sandwich shop, Peggy’s. The Fremantle establishment features a menu split between red sauce and white bases, atop a slow-fermented, hand-stretched dough. While you’re there, be sure to try the limited “grandma slice” — a square-shaped pizza baked in a deep-sided tray. It’s a yes from us.

Basilico Pizzeria — Midland

Credit: Basilico

We’re yet to experience a pizza we haven’t enjoyed from this gem hidden in the streets of Midland. Basilico Pizzeria’s dough is pre-fermented using only the best ingredients, and with a wine bar and beers on site, it’s no surprise people have caught on and this place is often packed to the rafters.
