Get Chunky is opening the doors to its fifth store this weekend, adding Leederville to the likes of Fremantle, Mount Lawley, East Victoria Park, and Currambine.
The New York-inspired cookie joint will bring its super-sized sweet treats to Oxford Street this Sunday, August 25th. Kicking off at 10:00 am, the grand opening will run until 5:00 pm.
Free cookies and one-off offers
Why do you want to go? Many reasons. The first 100 customers will get a free cookie. What’s more? The first 10 people in line will receive a box of six cookies and a drink. The famed Sticky Date Cookie will also be available at the Leederville store for one day, and one day only.
Born from a cookie obsession
Get Chunky was born from an obsession with cookies, a love for baking, and a dream to work with family. Since she was small, Kyra McNally had always adored baking and naturally, cookies were her favourite dessert. It’s what led her to start her own business, inspired by the gigantic cookies at New York’s Levain Bakery — a place that has graced her bucket list for as long as she can remember.
How it all started
In early 2017, Kyra had an epiphany and realised there was a huge gap in the market. She knew everyone loved cookies just as much as doughnuts — if not more — but there wasn’t one dedicated cookie shop Australia-wide. If she couldn’t afford to go to The Empire State for cookies, she was determined to perfect her recipes and bring the New York style to Perth.
When she first started selling her cookies at a Fremantle Markets stall, she was making everything at home with her KitchenAid mixer. At that point, her tiny oven could only bake five cookies at a time because she couldn’t afford to hire a commercial kitchen. But the proof was in the pudding, as to her utter disbelief, she was selling out within two hours every Sunday.
