One of the biggest days on the hospitality event calendar was Monday night — the WA Good Food Guide Awards gala. The night when they announce and celebrate excellence in the hospitality industry.
There are a number of categories that make up the awards, from Chef of the Year and Sommelier of the Year to the coveted Restaurant of the Year.
Restaurant of the Year
This year, the title of Restaurant of the Year was awarded to Gibney — the recently opened sophisticated brasserie and grill in Cottesloe with views to die for.
Gibney also took out several other awards, including Best Wine List, Sommelier of the Year (Nina Throsby), and Bartender of the Year (James Gentile).
When the venue opened, we had a chat with George Kailis, owner and Kailis Hospitality Group Managing Director, who told us, “When it comes to what makes the restaurant stand out in the Perth food scene, it’s the total package of location and product. When dessert comes out, we’re dressing it table-side. Special aspects like this separate us from other venues who can’t afford that investment. We are giving people different experiences through that investment in hospitality.”
“We have some of WA’s best chefs, sommeliers, and waitstaff, along with expensive décor, and a multi-million dollar view. To me, that’s good value.”
