Gin is the talk of the town it seems, cleaning up at the 2022 Perth Royal Distilled Spirits Awards.
Established in 2019, the award’s purpose is to showcase the very best of our homegrown spirits, liquers, and bitters.
Of the 117 entries in this year’s awards featuring vodka, gin, rum, whiskey, brandy and alternative spirits, 36 entries – just over 30 per cent – were contemporary-style gins.
Newcomers Little Stiller Distillery snagged Champion Gin for their Signature Dry Gin, while returning favourites Old Youngs Distillery had the most entries of any single exhibitor and took home two golds, seven silvers, seven bronze and Champion Vodka.
Perth gold winners in the Contemporary Gin category included Mandurah’s Little Stiller Distillery’s Signature Gin, Subiaco’s Spirit of Little Things’ Australian Botanical Gin, Bickley’s The Packing Shed Distilling Company Garden Party, and The Vine’s AmberChes Spirits Distillery’s Orange Gin.
Both St Agnes Distillery and Bellwether backed up their 2021 wins in 2022, and other newcomers to keep an eye on included Banks and Bloom, Here’s Looking at You, and Kid Distillery.
