Applecross is known and adored for its charming café strip, The Village. The Ardross Street dining destination is where keen foodies can find some of the city’s best cafés and restaurants. Pick a perch along the famous jacaranda-lined street, and while away the hours with a caffeinated beverage and little treat. Trialled and tested, here’s a round-up of the best cafés in Applecross.

Nic and Kolo

Tucked away at the south end of the Applecross Village, Nic and Kolo is a fully licensed award-winning café with an Asian fusion menu that pays homage to founders Ben and Nicole Kon-Yu’s Mauritian heritage. The name derives from the combination of wife Nicole’s first name and husband Ben’s childhood nickname. Mata Design Studio are behind the locally designed interior, which oozes a fresh and spacious feel with a warm palette of soft oak timbers and grey finishes, bold blue accents, brass and marble detailing. Pop in for their all-day brunch menu, featuring crowd-favourite dishes like the mac and cheese egg benedict, mushroom gnocchi and cinnamon scroll pancakes!

Cheeky Boy Espresso

Known for being packed on the regular, Cheeky Boy Espresso is the ultimate feel-good cafe and a must for your Applecross foodie bucket list. From their avocado toast and hot cakes, to their crunchy granola and paninis, we’re confident there will be something you’ll love.

Canteen Pizza

In its brand-new riverside Applecross home, Canteen well and truly lives up to its promise of pizza, wine, and a real good time. If you like the sound of mortadella paninis, breakfast pizzettas, and traditional cinnamon doughnuts, you’ll love their morning menu. If you haven’t already been, this foodie hotspot well and truly deserves to be at the top of your list. The space is warm and inviting with a neutral palette, cosy booths, and an alfresco setting peppered with umbrellas. It’s no surprise the cruisy Mediterranean-inspired atmosphere is always a hive of activity.

Ardross Street Café

Nestled on the Applecross strip, Ardross Street Café is another favourite for locals and blow-ins alike. Think umbrella’s, alfresco dining and a side of jacaranda trees. Food-wise, we’re big fans of the brioche French toast, avocado salsa corn fritters, and classic poached eggs.

Crumbs Patisserie

If you’re on a diet, you’re in the wrong place. With so many melt-in-your-mouth pastries, the hardest part will be deciding which to choose. We’re talking biscoff slice, almond croissants, and macarons galore. Headed by Perth-born pastry chef Julia Buri, the decadent treats at Crumbs taste even better than they look.

Cioccolato Espresso

If you’re after a seriously groovy place with fabulous food, Cioccolato Espresso is well-worthy of the hit list. Draped with hanging plants and verdant vines, their botanical laneway is one of the best spots to perch with one of their killer hot chocolates. Their menu is also just as banging, think blueberry French toast, ham and cheese crossiants, and blackberry and toasted almond porridge.

Artem

Technically located in Mount Pleasant, but what difference do a few streets make when you’re on the hunt for the perfect smashed avocado? Artem was once a pop-up coffee shop that gained so much popularity they were eventually persuaded to set up a permanent spot. Their mochi waffles have gained a cult audience — and for good reason. Think carby, sweet, and dusted with matcha… need we say more?

Little Horn Espresso

If you’re on the go, make Little Horn Espresso your pit stop. Fill your morning cravings with the sweet and savoury treats from this buzzing hole-in-the-wall coffee joint.

Small Farms Wholefoods

Last but definitely not least is Stream Lab Coffee & Tea. They’ve been whipping up some of the best breakfast and lunch options in Applecross for years. Hidden behind the hustle and bustle of Canning Highway, this small but mighty cafe deserves a place on your list.
