The restrictions on takeaway alcohol introduced as part of the response to COVID-19 have been lifted by the State Government.

Today Racing and Gaming Minister Paul Papalia announced the restrictions on takeaway alcohol introduced as part of the response to COVID-19 have been lifted by the State Government.

“I would like to thank West Australians for acting responsibly during this difficult time — helping to ensure no extra pressure was placed on our health system, police or community sectors,” Mr Papalia said.

The temporary alcohol restrictions were introduced in late March and were designed to minimise alcohol-related problems in the community so that the health system, police and community services could focus on the response to COVID-19.

This means the following limits have now been lifted:

  • ONE carton of beer, cider or pre-mix; or
  • THREE bottles of wine; or
  • ONE litre of spirits; or
  • ONE litre of fortified wine; or
  • A combination of any two of the above

Mr Papalia commended the community and the liquor industry for their co-operation.

“We ask all Western Australians who consume alcohol to do so responsibly while practicing social distancing and following all public health advice,” he said. Existing takeaway alcohol restrictions in particular communities unrelated to COVID-19 will remain in place.

Now everyone please behave and don’t ruin it for everyone else…
