Female Aussie Authors with Heartwarming New Reads

As a mad keen (some would put more emphasis on the mad) reader, I’m always excited to hear that some of my favourite Australian female authors have new books coming out later this year. As the Read Women movement gathers momentum, I thought I’d share with you what I’m looking forward to later this year.

Kate Morton – The Lake House (October 2015)

Kate Morton is known for creating narratives across multiple time periods and usually involves a Gothic element in her story (think a neglected mansion or a decades old secret). The Lake House won’t disappoint – there’s an abandoned house, a policewoman forced to take a break from work and a decades-old mystery about an abandoned child.

Perfect if: you loved Rebecca.

Rachael Johns – The Patterson Girls (October 2015)

Rachael Johns is a local  author of a number of rural romances set in W.A. In this book, she jumps into women’s fiction with a story about four sisters. Brought together by their mother’s death, the girls bring their baggage with them. Each has their own troubles and finding out about a family curse doesn’t help.

Perfect if: you adore books by Monica McInerney or Maeve Binchy.

Lisa Ireland – Feels Like Home (July 2015)

Lisa Ireland is an author on the rise. She writes witty stories set in the country with a hint of romance or two. This story about first love reunited in a small town is sure to be a heartwarmer this winter.

Perfect if: you love a country set story.

Kate Forsyth – The Beast’s Garden (August 2015)

Kate Forsyth writes widely across genres (from fantasy to children’s to adult fiction). This is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, but with a twist – it’s set in Nazi Germany.

Perfect if: you want to relive fairy tales from childhood in an adult way).

Fiona McArthur – The Homestead Girls (24th June 2015)

Fiona McArthur is a midwife by trade, who has written many category romances (that’s Mills & Boon) but has recently stepped into women’s fiction. The Homestead Girls is about a Royal Flying Doctor base in the fictional town of Mica Ridge. It combines medicine, family and relationships against a medical background – you won’t believe some the accidents occurring in the Outback.

Perfect if: you like a little bit of medicines in your fiction.
