One Vineyard, Three Winemakers, Zero Rules — MyattsField’s Epic Perth Hills Wine Experiment That Demystifies Winemaking
Ever wondered how much a winemaker’s personal touch impacts what’s in your glass? This October, the crew at MyattsField Vineyards in the Bickley Valley are giving you the chance to find out.
Their fan-favourite winemaking project, Tête-à-Tête à Trois (translating to “Head-to-Head by Three”) is back for 2026, and it’s stripping away all the usual pretension around wine tasting.
The idea is simple but brilliant: a single parcel of hand-harvested Perth Hills Chenin Blanc is split equally among MyattsField’s three winemakers: Rachael Davenport, Josh Davenport, and Josh Uren.
Working independently, each winemaker employs wildly different techniques, oak choices, skin contact times, and fermentation styles. The result? Three distinct, small-batch wines created from the exact same harvest.
First launched in 2015 as a friendly internal challenge, the project strips away wine pretension. “The idea was born out of pure curiosity and a desire to pull back the curtain on how different winemaking choices shape a wine,” says founder Josh Davenport. “It transforms wine tasting from a passive experience into an active discovery.”
Beyond being a creative playground for the team, it highlights the Perth Hills’ dynamic boutique winemaking scene, where innovation and tradition go hand in hand.
Want to decide who crafted the best drop? You can meet the winemakers and taste all three Chenin Blancs side-by-side at exclusive winery tastings on October 17th and 18th.
Can’t make it to the hills? Three-packs of the challenge wines are available online so you can host your own blind tasting showdown at home.
