A second wave of the COVID-19 has seen a spike in cases across the world

While Australia is enjoying a moment of peace in its fight against coronavirus, with three days of no community transmission recorded nationally, the outside world is battling a ferocious second wave of COVID-19.

According to Reuters, October saw the highest number of cases recorded during the pandemic so far.

The US bore the brunt of the second wave, at one point reporting more than 100,000 daily cases.

On Saturday, the day before the election was called, it recorded more than 130,000 new infections.

India has the second-highest case numbers globally, passing 8.5 million cases on Friday.

France is now suffering through a horrific second wave of its own, now surpassing India’s daily average of 46,200 and recording 54,440 cases a day on its latest seven-day average.

A seven-day average taken across all countries shows infections are rising by more than 540,000.

More than 1.25 million have died from the disease.

The second wave has seen cases spike shockingly fast, with almost 10 million cases recorded in just one month earlier this year.

Another 10 million were added in just 21 days during the month of October.
