Police responders in the US town has received “a flood” of police calls from people in Perth in recent weeks, with a number of drunks and misguided Googlers accidentally placing international calls instead of local WA police calls to report crime.

“As you can probably hear in the background there are a bunch of people fighting at Russell Square,” one caller told US police dispatchers.

“The accent was definitely the first thing that gave it away,” Jordan Tredeau told the local news reporter.

Police were kindly directing callers back to the local police in Western Australia.

Today on Facebook, Western Australia Police posted a story from CBS Boston, covering the frequent accidental wrong number from Perth.

WA Police said, “We’ve been contacted by our counterparts at the Northbridge Police in Whitinsville, Massachusetts, saying that in recent weeks they have been receiving calls for police assistance from Perth… just a reminder, if you need police assistance call 131444, or call 000 in emergencies.”
