Latest updates from Scott Morrison Coronavirus press conference 19 of March.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has just addressed the media with his latest update regarding the Coronavirus crisis in Australia.

Full travel ban

Scott Morrison has closed the Australian borders with a full travel ban for all non-Australian residents from 9pm tomorrow.

This means only Australian residents are able to enter the country – however, they will be subject to 14 days of self-isolation on arrival.

No food shortage

Yesterday’s statement by Scott Morrison was quite blunt about his feelings towards panic shopping and hoarders.

“I also want to say to Australians that there are no issues with Australia’s food supply. But there is an issue with the behaviour of Australians at supermarkets. That is what is causing the stress and the strain on the food supply in Australia.”

Life isn’t like it was before.

Further financial assistance for small to medium business

The Federal government is focused on supporting the nation’s small and medium businesses through this crisis.

The latest move by the government is to ensure the banks are able to get access to more money at a lower cost – allowing them to further support small businesses.

“What today’s announcements do is actually making sure that the banks themselves are in a position to get access to money at a lower cost, which means they’re going to be in a better position and stronger position to be supporting small and medium-sized businesses”

Income support for Australians

are you talking to the banks about not foreclosing on people’s mortgages?

The main question that the bulk of Australians want to be answered though is – what about our bills and our mortgages?

When asked are you talking to the banks about not foreclosing on people’s mortgages?

While there isn’t a current solution, Morrison has said that they are in talks with banks are or developing what these packages would look like and in the meantime is urging banks to be generous towards their customers at this time of crisis.

“Now, we understand that certainly over the next six months, that is a very different looking economy. And when the specs change, when the circumstances change, you need to adjust your packages and the way you’re delivering support in the community to reflect that. So we’ll have a lot more to say about these things in the not too distant future.”

These words echo the same stance taken by Mark McGowan yesterday as he stated that more needed to be done for individuals and the economy in WA.

More to come.
