An Influencer’s Guide To The Best Things To Do In Perth

We asked our favourite Perthonalities what the best things to do in Perth were. This is what they said.

Perth is the sunniest capital in Australia, known and adored for its magnificent beaches, arts and culture scene, and strong food game. There’s no shortage of things to while away the hours here.

More and more conversations have been sparked debating the best things to do in Perth. So to get a more balanced take, we asked some of our favourite Perth influencers for their two cents on the best things to do in Perth. Here’s what they said:

My favourite thing to do is to go for a nice hike with the family. And you can’t go past Bold Park. The 5-kilometre nature trail there is just perfect. It’s also dog friendly which is great!

Angelo Street Market for their rolls! I love it because it’s clear how much they love the local community of South Perth. We head to the deli for rolls and take them to the foreshore for lunch and people watching. Our go to is a chicken schnitty roll with mayo and lots of fresh salad.

The most beautiful thing about Perth is the amount of lakes and scenic walking tracks. If you’re a dog lover like me, you’re going to love Lake Gwelup. I grab a takeaway coffee and take my dogs for a weekend walk surrounded by native bushland and scenic wetland — they can be off leash and enjoy the sunshine. It’s an escape from my busy life, only a 13-minute drive north of the Perth CBD, yet doesn’t feel like you’re in the city.

My favourite place to go is Coogee Boathouse. The staff are great, the food is incredible, and the location is to die for. Try the fried cauliflower, tuna tartare, sticky pork belly, and Korean chicken wings, along with a couple of pints. It’s a guaranteed good time!

My favourite spot in Perth is Fremantle. I love it because it’s vibrant, has character, and an organic feeling about itself that isn’t all about the “hustle and bustle”. The people are more individual, the businesses feel more local, and the overall vibe is a creative one. It’s perfect for photographers, people-watching, and a family day out. You’re sure to bump into a street performer, a cheeky market bargain or the most delicious food. Not to mention the parks, waterfront, and cafes! I highly recommend Kuld Creamery for the ice cream and the Fremantle Markets for anyone visiting for the first time. Then, check out High Street for the coffee, vintage stores, book shops, and record shops.

Sneaky Tony’s is where I take anyone new to Perth and they’re blown away every time. Sneaky Tony’s is a hidden rum bar in Chinatown with more than 300 bottles of international rum. You require a password to enter and can find it on their Instagram. The cocktails are incredible, definitely grab a fish bowl if you’re with a group! There’s also a hidden bar within a hidden bar. Go to the bar and ask “Is Totts in?” and you’ll be presented with a shot and a ticket. You have to do the shot before giving your ticket to a person sitting by a door down a hallway, and you’ll enter a 60s disco rave.

My favourite spot in Perth is undoubtedly Hiss & Smoke. Located in the heart of Yagan Square and inspired by the gastropub culture in Japan, Hiss & Smoke specialises in Japanese street eats and Yakitori. But the experience goes beyond the food, it has a super vibrant atmosphere where you’re delighted by the sight of flames dancing in the kitchen and the aromas of grilling meats. I strongly recommend the lamb shoulder and the pork belly — the perfect balance of crispiness and tenderness. For the adventurous eater, I would recommend the premium ox tongue, which is buttery and delicious. Your taste buds will thank you!

I love an evening at CALEB Restaurant and Bar. It’s a prize-winning Italian at a really affordable price. The cooking classes are amazing and my favourite dish is the 48-hour, slow braised kangaroo and wagyu beef, handmade pesto spaghetti, and gorgonzola bechamel. You also have to try the Montepulciano d’Abrusso red wine!

My favourite spot in Perth has to be Venn in Victoria Park. I’ve been a regular there since 2015 and even though I’m a 20-minute drive away, I try to go at least once a week. I’ll keep it simple and say I have never, ever had better coffee. The staff are so beautiful, remember your name, have a chat and a laugh, and always produce delicious, perfected, and consistent quality products. It’s all about community and coffee and they truly are the experts. Secondly, my absolute favourite Sunday morning treat is a bagel. You can build your own, but if you’re looking for a classic done well you have to try the olive and rosemary bagel with ham, cheese, and tomato schmear. There is nothing more comforting.

Nonna and I always get our favourite fish and chips and head down to the North Beach car park and watch the sunset. I love it because I have eaten fish and chips with my nonna my whole life, and as we have gone through different stages of our life we have changed the experience to make sure we can still do it. When I was in school, we would sit on the sand and then as my Nonna aged we started sitting on the grass. Now we either sit in the car or there’s a special little seat that we sit on if it’s not too windy. Nonna has a walker and we also sometimes use that as our table!
