WA’s award-winning beachside markets for conscious folk and ocean lovers, Summer X Salt Markets, returns to Trigg on Saturday, October 19th October, taking over Clarko Reserve for its biggest season yet!
The salty, surfy, zero-waste markets will be held every fortnight on the first and third Saturdays of the month, through to the end of March next year. As well as a special edition Pop Up Christmas Market on December 14th.
More than 200 ocean-inspired creatives, artists, and designers
This season, market goers can expect more than 200 ocean-inspired and sustainable-minded local creatives, artists, and designers. Delicious food and drink trucks will be among the diverse line-up of stalls, accompanied by live music from emerging musicians, nature play activities for kids, free outdoor wellness sessions, and coastal clean-ups.
This year will see the launch of the Mini Makers corner where young entrepreneurs between the ages of 6 and 16 have the opportunity to showcase their handmade products. This new creative launchpad will empower, encourage, and support the next generation of budding entrepreneurs, artists, and creatives as they get a taste of running a small business.
Recognised as “Australia’s Best Small Event 2022” by the Australian Event Awards, Summer X Salt has proven to be so much more than just a market. It fosters coastal community connection, empowers local creatives, and educates people about positive and sustainable practices.
Free wellness and community offerings
Free wellness and community offerings bring everyone together and promote healthy weekends, kicking off with a 6:00 am Seagals sunrise dip, 7:00 am meditation and sound healing, 8:00 am yoga, and 9:00 am Pilates. Plus, free kids nature play activities and craft at the Kids Nature Club tent from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.
Summer X Salt Markets Event Directors, Mei Wan Sidhu and Sophie Firth, are inspired by the volume of innovative creatives, designers, and artisans that are emerging from Perth.
“We’ve yet again had an influx of incredible stall holders apply this year, and we’re honoured to offer this beautiful beachside space for small local businesses to showcase their talents to the wider community,” Sidhu said.
“Since it began in 2016, the markets have supported more than 2,000 small businesses, creatives, designers, and makers. It welcomes more than 50,000 visitors annually and injects over $1 million in revenue into the local economy.”
Championing the zero-waste movement
As well as growing from strength to strength, the markets are now a leader in sustainable events, Firth said.
“We are committed to ensuring our planet is nurtured and taken care of for future generations to come. This means implementing positive and sustainable practices beyond being a marketplace for the community,” Firth said.
“We’ve been championing the zero-waste movement since our very first season. Each year, we run beach clean ups — over the last five years more than 850 kilograms of litter has been picked up off Trigg Beach. This year, Saltwater Cleanups and Sea Shepherd will be hosting the beach clean ups.”
“We have a mug library, where mugs and utensils are available for the public to borrow. Over the years, this initiative alone has saved 40,000 single-use coffee cups from being used. We’re also a carbon positive event, partnering with Carbon Positive Australia to offset our emissions. Last year, 400 native trees were planted restoring and revitalising precious land and ecosystems across Australia.”
“Markets bring people together to enjoy some of life’s great pleasures: the love of good food, company and community. It’s our mission to create happy and inclusive communities that support, grow, and thrive as one. We want to instigate the ripple effect and inspire market goers to continue to spread these important messages, so we can achieve a better and more sustainable future for all,” Sidhu said.
Supporting emerging artists
Live music has also become a key element of Summer X Salt Markets, adding to the relaxed beach vibes. Emerging artists aged between 12 and 25 perform acoustic music in hourly sets, offering them an opportunity to get their name out there and gain experience playing in front of an audience.
Registrations are now open for young musicians, visit the Summer X Salt website to apply.
