When the salt air returns to Perth’s weekends, so do the markets that capture its coastal spirit. This Saturday, October 18th, the Summer X Salt Markets kick off their tenth anniversary season at Clarko Reserve in Trigg, celebrating a decade of surf, sustainability, and sunshine.
What began as a handful of stalls by the sea has become one of Western Australia’s most loved community events, drawing more than 60,000 visitors each season. The markets have grown into a symbol of Perth’s laid-back beach lifestyle — where local makers, musicians, and families gather to celebrate coastal life and protect the environment that inspires it.
A decade of coastal culture

Now entering its tenth summer, Summer X Salt has evolved into an award-winning institution, recognised as Australia’s Best Small Event 2022 by the Australian Event Awards. The 2025/26 season will run every first and third Saturday of the month from October through to March, with a festive Christmas edition and a grand finale closing out the summer.
This season will see special pop-ups, limited-edition merchandise, collaborations, and giveaways celebrating ten years of connection between community, creativity, and coastline.
Event Director Sophie Firth said the decade-long journey has been nothing short of transformative. “What started as a small coastal gathering has grown into a thriving community that’s supported over 2,000 small businesses, creatives, designers and makers,” she said. “We’re honoured that more than 60,000 people now join us each season, and that together we’ve injected over $1.7 million into the local economy.”
Co-founder Mei Wan Sidhu added that sustainability has remained at the core. “From beach clean-ups and saving more than 50,000 single-use coffee cups with our mug library, to becoming a carbon positive event, we’re proud to lead by example. As we celebrate our 10th salty summer, we’re reflecting on the impact we’ve made and looking ahead to the next 10 years of championing our coastline and community.”
Sustaining the coastline
Beyond the stalls and surfboards, Summer x Salt remains grounded in its mission to create a carbon-positive, zero-waste community hub. The markets partner with Carbon Positive Australia to offset emissions — planting over 400 native trees last season — and continue to host beach clean-ups, composting initiatives, and waste-free practices that inspire other events to follow suit.
Each market day is designed as a celebration of mindful living: sunrise swims, oceanfront yoga, Pilates, and meditation sessions run alongside the bustle of more than 70 local artisans, food trucks, and live music. Kids’ nature play activities and the return of the Mini Makers corner — where young entrepreneurs aged six to sixteen can showcase their creations — give the next generation a chance to take part. Applications for Mini Makers are open now via summerxsalt.com/mini-makers.
