Stick it to the big guys, and find something unique at these City of Vincent retailers.

Sick of seeing those fab new shorts you just bought on every second person you pass on the street? There’s a simple fix. Stop relying on purchasing from chains, and start buying from independents.

Whether you’re looking for books, homewares, or fashion, the little guys always do it better. There’s a ton of great boutique stores around Perth, and we’ve rounded up some of our favourite independent retailers on the northern fringe of the city below.

And better yet, Easy Park has made it easier than ever to visit each retailer. It’s available throughout the City of Vincent, and the first hour of parking is free.

Angove St Collective

31 Angove St, North Perth WA 6006

What doesn’t the Angove St Collective do?

Well, not much. Labelled as a ‘concept store’, the collective is an urban warehouse stocked with an ever evolving collection of independent retailers, most of which are local to WA.

You can find literally almost anything in this huge space on Angove Street. There’s a range of indoor plants as you first walk in the door, homewares and larger scale furniture in the middle section of the space, and a boutique selling clothing, accessories, and skincare right up the back. Heck, they even have a cafe taking up residence next door. They make it super easy for you to just ‘grab a coffee and do a spot of shopping’.

Lula & Sasha

28 Angove St, North Perth WA 6006

Wandering along Angove Street, you can’t help but be lured into Lula & Sasha boutique. It’s light, bright, white, and oh-so-inviting.

Everything about the store oozes femininity; from the ornate white cabinets, to the frills, pastels, and prints on display. Perfectly colour coordinated, the racks are full of pieces from the likes of Wish, August The Label, Billini, and We are Kindred. If it’s accessories and homewares you’re looking for, you’ll find items from Glasshouse, Django & Juliette, Mollini, and more.

You’ve got to snap up pieces that catch your attention right then and there, because Lula & Sasha only stock one size run of everything they sell.

Tsuki Shop

54B Angove St, North Perth WA 6006

Sustainable practice is the new black.

Tsuki Store, on Angove St in North Perth, are well and truly doing their bit for the environment, by filling their racks with pre-loved garments.

Unlike other stores selling pre-loved items, Tsuki store don’t work on consignment, sourcing all their own products from markets. There’s an eclectic mix of pre-owned product in store, from fully sequined dresses and clutches, to vintage vases and tea sets.

Shop local, and shop sustainable.

Planet Books

638 Beaufort St, Perth WA 6050

If ever there was a place to lose a few hours poring over a paperback, it’s Planet Books. They wouldn’t have strategically placed couch or two, if they weren’t encouraging you to stay a while.

One of Beaufort Street’s treasures, Planet Books is your go-to store for anything a little out of the ordinary. Sure, you can pick up the Harry Potter series, and probably 50 Shades of Grey, from them. But, you can also find titles like ‘Livin’, Lovin’ Perth’, and ‘The World’s Best Bowl Foods’, hidden amongst the shelves. If you thought it was something too obscure to have a book written about it, guaranteed you’ll find it at Planet.

Books aren’t all they do either. Their extensive gift selection is just as quirky as their collection of books. Think alcohol shot guns, Trump Dump toilet paper, and sushi socks.

William Topp

452 William St, Perth WA 6000

After 11 years in the business at the top end of William Street, William Topp have amassed an incredible selection of gifts, accessories, and homewares. There’s something for everyone in store – even the person who seemingly has everything, and those that are notoriously hard to buy for.

Every category of gift is covered off at William Topp. There’s something for the kids (the Kewpie dolls and tin cars are adorable), something for your significant other (boutiquey aftershave perhaps?) and of course, a lot of things you’ll probably end up purchasing for yourself. They’re also the exclusive stockists of the David Shrigley range in Perth. If you haven’t seen his ‘ridiculous inflatable swan thing’, you need to head in store and see it, stat!

Elite Choice

Shopping for ugg boots anywhere other than Elite Choice is sacrilege. It’s a mecca for all things snuggly and sheepskin.

Rather unassuming, this small store on the top end of William St is packed to the brim with stylish, quintessentially Aussie products. This isn’t just any old Australian souvenir store though. There are no tacky magnets here. ‘Shopping local’ takes on new meaning at Ilka. It’s ‘local’ in every sense.

Sitting at the Mount Hawthorn end of Oxford Street, the store exclusively stocks product that has been designed and/or made right here in WA. In fact, 2 of the labels stocked in store have workshops right out the back – Jonté, and the store’s namesake label, Ilka. You can’t get much more local than that.

As well as a great range of clothing, you can head in store to pick up fun accessories, homewares, art, and jewellery, from labels like Bianko, Wild Horses, and Monster Alphabets. They even offer a hire service, alterations, and bespoke bridalwear. There’s really not much that they can’t help you with!

Tredways

159 Scarborough Beach Rd, Mount Hawthorn WA 6016

Tredways has sat at the intersection of Scarborough Beach Road and Flinders Street for the past 70 years. All that time in the same spot makes them the oldest independently run shoe store in Perth, that’s still in their original location. Quite the feat!

After all this time in the business, they’ve become known as a destination for Dr Martens. In fact, they boast Perth’s biggest range of the much loved boots. Sure, they stock your original black docs, but it’s their range of colourful, printed, and even sequinned docs, that earns them that crown.

If you’re not into Dr Martens, there are plenty of other brands that might be up your alley – Skechers, Django & Juliette, or maybe even EOS.
