The 25-year-old Bunbury native, Damian Lane has had some sort of year. He’s claimed each of the Golden Slipper (Kiamichi), Caulfield Cup (Mer De Glace) and Cox Plate (Lys Gracieux) so far in 2019.
Now to capture the Grand Slam for Australia Racing in 2019, Lane will jump on Mer De Glace in the Melbourne Cup – one of the favourites for the race that stop the nation.
Jockey’s strive to win the grand slam throughout their whole career, not to mention doing it all in the space of one year.
Has a jockey ever won four majors on a year been done before?
Never! To find someone that has come close to what Lane has done so far – in 2014 Ryan Moore won two of Australian Racing majors – Adelaide in the Cox Plate and Protectionist in the Melbourne Cup.
Come race day at the Melbourne Cup, Lane will be lining up for the remarkable feat to win all four majors of Australian Racing in the one year.
Lane will ride Mer De Glace (currently $9) at 56kg.
