Merredin Australia’s Biggest Sausage Fest – Wheatbelt town has worst male to female singles ration

Merredin sausage party: For single blokes, the wheatbelt town of Merredin is home to the worst single male to female ratio in Australia.

In the town, there are nearly 400 single men for every 100 single women in early 20’s demographic.

According to celebrity Demographer Bernard Salt, Merredin has the biggest single young men (in the 20 – 24 age demographic) to single women ration than any other town or suburb in the entire nation.

The data, from the ABS Survey, paints an intriguing picture of Australia’s single population.

“There are 134 single men aged 20-24 and only 34 single women in the same age group. These numbers convert to a ratio of 394 single men per 100 single women,” Salt wrote in The Australian newspaper.

“Merredin has a four-to-one surplus of single men. It’s raining men in Merredin – young men, single men, available men,” he said.

Salt referred to the population of Merredin as a “man damn” – the ladies of Merredin are spoilt for choice.

On the flip side, in a northern suburb of Wagga Wagga – Estella (population 3500) – there are 210 single women to just 112 single men.

“Unfortunately for the young single men of Merredin, the nation’s hotspot of young single women isn’t even close to the west’s wheatbelt. In fact, the census shows that a northern suburb of Wagga Wagga,” Salt wrote.

In the 30 – 34 demographic, things are looking particularly bad for single men in the town of Harvey, south of Perth.

According to Salt, there are 210 single males in that age group for every 100 single females.

“Actually, Harvey is located close to an alumina smelter and coalfields that attract male workers. This isn’t looking good. The hot spots for single men and single women in each age group are at opposite sides of the continent,” he says.

Australia’s Best towns by age group to find single men and women

So where are all the single women? Salt suggest most of the young single women head to Perth for University and work, while the men are much more likely to stay in town.
