Quite simply the Riders of Justice movie is a delightful surprise. Another superbly acted dark Danish comedy to add to your list of must see movie.

Riders Of Justice

Opening in Estonia a young girl dreams of a blue bike for Christmas. An innocent desire that sets in motion a deadly chain of events.

School girl Mathilde Hansen (Andrea Heick Gadeberg) usually rides her bike to school, but this morning it’s missing, so her mother drives her to school. When their car breaks down they decide to take the train.

On the packed train a recently sacked Mathematician, Otto Hoffman (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) gives up his seat to Mathilde’s mother. Around the same time he notices a heavily tattooed passenger looking at him. Tragedy strikes on the train and when the dust settles Mathilde’s mother is dead.

Mathilde’s father Markus Hansen (Mads Mikkelsen) is sent home from his army post to look after his teenage daughter, but the tough career solider soon finds he’s out of his depth.

When Hoffman and his two equally geeky colleagues turn up on Markus’s doorstep suggesting the tragedy was not an accident, things start to get real.

Riders of Justice is beautifully acted, very clever, funny, disturbing movie about coincidence, probability and grief. Anyone working in maths or probability will love this movie. Mikkelsen is an absolute delight as the tough father, so too the trio of maths geeks, all brilliant actor.

The movie skilfully touches on some heavy subjects without the need for explanation. If you don’t like a high body count you won’t like this one. If you don’t mind that you’ll love it.

Another fabulously dark Danish comedy.
