Northbirdge Dining Room and Wine Store open next to The Bird on William Street in February.

The Bird’s neighbour, formerly Young Love, is soon to be Northbirdge Dining Room and Wine Store. The new addition to William Street opens officially on Tuesday, 18 February with soft openings from Friday, 7 February.

“This is a place where everyone is welcomed, accepted, celebrated and most importantly, comfortable.”

Owner Kabir Ramasary

Northbirdge Dining Room and Wine Store is lead by an all-star team including; head chef Chris Howard (Panama Social), venue manager Grattan Joyce (Margaret River wine maker), wine consultant Chris Watts (Clarence’s), head sommelier soon to be revealed, and assistant sommelier Caitlin Johnston (Cook & Mason).

Owner Kabir Ramasary, who became part of The Bird and Ezra Pound’s legacy a few years ago, wanted to bring another gathering space to Northbridge – an intimate and low-key hangout welcome to everyone.

Northbirdge Dining Room and Wine Store is spelt North-bird-dge but pronounced Northbridge. Although it may seem like a typo, the name was chosen to highlight the space’s connection to The Bird. Ramasary wanted the popular music venue’s culture of community and inclusiveness to be present in the new venue too.

“I wanted to create a space where people could come together, talk about wine in an unpretentious environment, eat honest and sustainably-sourced food and share conversations with friends,” says Ramasary. “This is a place where everyone is welcomed, accepted, celebrated and most importantly, comfortable.”

Head Chef Chris Howard’s knack for telling stories with cooking is put to good use, with a menu championing local producers. Flour will be milled at Miller + Baker on Lake St in Northbridge, and fresh vegetables will be sourced from Roly Poly Farm in Harvey.

Local ingredients are tied in with influences from the Mediterranean and make for an honest European menu.

“We’re all about highlighting the quality of the ingredients from its moment of harvest,” says Howard. “We’ll be inter-splicing traditional flavour profiles with new school philosophies on technique.”

Wine consultant Chris Watts has chosen small producers for the wine offering with an emphasis on origin and inclusivity. Selections will be everchanging and grow with the community as time goes on.

“We want to be part of the Northbridge experience and fulfil every wine lovers dream of finding that one bottle they celebrate their wedding anniversary with, or the perfect gift for a loved one,” says wine consultant Chris Watts.

The wine store is open for takeaway bottles. It’s also available by the bottle or the glass at the bar.

Northbirdge Dining Room and Wine Store will be a welcome pitstop for food, wine and meaningful encounters with strangers and friends.

Opening Tuesday, 18 February 2020
