Latest update from the state government regarding the WA coronavirus epidemic.

Premier Mark McGowan, Health Minister Roger Cook and Police Commissioner Chris Dawson have provided an update on WA’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Key talking points:

  • Vasco da Gama will dock later tonight
  • Internal travel ban will be put in place Tuesday midnight
  • 24 new cases confirmed – state total now 255 confirmed cases in WA
  • A 5-month-old has tested positive for the coronavirus

Vasco da Gama to dock

Vasco da Gama, will be allowed to dock in Fremantle later tonight.

From Sunday, all West Australian passengers on the cruise ship will be transferred to Rottnest Island for 14 days for self-isolation.

WA Internal Travel Ban

“Do not travel around WA” is the cal from Mr McGowan.

As of midnight, Tuesday travel restrictions with regional barriers will be enforced.

Police will have the power to enforce these restrictions with fines after $50,000 for those who aren’t travelling when it is essential (work or compassionate grounds).

WA records 24 new cases of coronavirus

The state has seen an additional 24 confirmed cases overnight with 11 males and 13 females taking total to 255.

In an alarming announcement, WA has recorded a positive test for a 5-month-old overnight. The five-month-old is the child of two of the new confirmed cases. Ages of the new confirmed cases range from 5 months to 83 years old.

Of the 24 new cases confirmed overnight, 5 were from regional WA areas taking the regional areas to a total of 24 cases.
