Face masks are now compulsory in Perth due to the latest Perth COVID-19 outbreak and here is everything you need to know.

With Perth now in full lockdown, those needing to travel outside of the house must do so with a facemask or face a potential fine.

The ruling by WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson, states that people living in the Perth, Peel and South West regions must wear a mask at all times while they are outside.

The mask can be a disposable surgical mask or a fitted cloth mask. People who aren’t wearing a mask and caught breaching this rule can be fined $1,000 on the spot or up to $50,000.

Mandatory face mask exemptions:

  • Engaged in teaching, lecturing or broadcasting work
  • Swimming

  • Asked to remove the face covering for identity purposes
  • The person is a prisoner or detainee in a place of custody, such as a prisoner or a detainee in a prison, detention centre or another place of custody
  • The person is communicating with a person who is deaf or hard of hearing and visibility of the mouth is essential for communication
  • The nature of a person’s work means that wearing a face-covering creates a risk to their health and safety
  • The nature of a person’s work or the activity that they are engaging in means that clear enunciation or visibility of the mouth is essential
  • The person is undergoing medical care or treatment to the extent that such care or treatment requires that no face covering be worn
