Update: Phase 3 of Perth COVID-19 restriction ease as venues will be allowed 100 people max capacity

Good news for WA with no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 recorded overnight.

So our state’s total remains at 570 with currently 12 active cases. Of these active cases 6 are crew from the live export ship, 4 from Victoria and 2 are Western Australians.

None of the active WA cases are in hospital and 549 have now recovered in WA.

At the moment no further coronavirus cases have been detected onboard the live export ship, but it has been reported that 27 crew members have been brought to a Perth hotel.

Further testing on the ships crew will take place today.

WA Testing blitz to commence

To further the scope of the virus within the WA community a testing “blitz” on asymptomatic people from groups of interest to COVID-19 will begin in WA tomorrow and run for 2 weeks.

The project called Detect Snapshot, will provide a better understanding of potential COVID-19 that may be undetected in the community.

“It will provide the government and the public with greater confidence that we are on top of this virus,” Mr Cook said.

People from specific groups who are not showing symptoms of COVID-19 can get a test for the virus from one of the COVID clinics, private pathology providers and also a drive-thru facility in Burswood.

Eligible groups that are part of Detect Snapshot are:

  • Health workers: WA Health staff, private hospital employees, employees of residential aged care facilities, general practice, pharmacies, and disability sector employees.
  • Police staff
  • Meat workers employed in an abattoir, meatpacking or in further processing such as small good manufacture.
  • Retail workers such as employees in supermarkets, department stores and speciality stores.
  • Hospitality workers such as employees in pubs, cafes, hotels or restaurants.

“These groups have been selected for their frequent interaction with the public during COVID-19, or where documented outbreaks have occurred in other jurisdictions,” Mr Cook said.

“Now is not the time to rest on our laurels and the Snapshot will further improve our understanding of COVID-19 and provide the public with additional confidence that the chances of being exposed to the virus remains low.”

784 were swabbed yesterday and 80,166 tests have been performed on Western Australians to date.
