Breaking News: Perth Earthquake – A major earthquake has hit Western Australia
People in Perth’s suburbs have reported on social media feeling an earth tremor around 1pm local time, Sunday September 16 2018.
A check of Geoscience websites, including Geoscience Australia and the US Geological Survey, confirms a 5.4 or 5.6 magnitude earthquake hitting at 12.56pm in the South-West of Western Australia.
People across the South-West also report feeling shaking. There are so far no reports of damage.
“She was a ripper, about 25-seconds long,” a called told radio 6PR.
People in high rises in Perth CBD felt the quake as well.
“I live in Perth CBD. My place wobbled. 14th floor. Scary stuff!,” Gabriel told So Perth on Facebook.
The WA Weather Bureau reports a 5.6 magnitude earthquake, centred near Lake Muir (north of Walpole) occurred at about 1.05pm WST Sunday.
“Our local forecasters in our local forecasting office building swayed here in West Perth for a few minutes – quite disconcerting” they reported.
