It’s your last chance to see Albany in a different light.

The South West’s wildly successful immersive art display, Field of Light: Avenue of Honour by internationally acclaimed English artist, Bruce Munro, is soon to call it a night on the 28th April.

Since launching on the 4th October 2018, the free art installation has attracted over 143,000 people to view the poignant display paying tribute to the Anzacs and commemorating 100 years since the end of the First World War.

Albany marked the last port of call for 41,000 troops leaving Australia for the battlefields and is an integral part of the Anzac history.

The visually striking display features a sea of 16,000 glass spheres illuminating Mount Clarence. From dusk to 10 pm each night, the tree-lined Avenue of Honour brightens with colours of green, white and gold, symbolic with the national flowers of both Australia (wattle) and New Zealand (kowhai). Many of the Anzacs left the shores of Albany during wildflower season and the subtle glow amongst Albany Hertiage Park’s stunning scenery serves as a reminder of the troop’s last contact on Australian soil.

It was a no brainer for Munro to select Albany to be the home of this contemporary yet emotive installation paying tribute to the Anzacs and those who continue to serve in conflicts.

“The relevance of this work in Albany becomes more potent because connection and understanding of our fellow humans is a fitting legacy for those who gave their lives.”

Munro’s unique art display is in collaboration with non-for-profit cultural organisation Form who’s efforts have been praised with attracting both local and international visitors to the South West region.

In response to how the immersive art has impacted the city and beyond, Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said, “Albany has been noticeably busier over the summer holiday period and the numbers to the installation have been incredible, it’s been a great initiative for us to be involved in and we’re really proud of its success.”

Visitors can follow the Field of Light: Avenue of Honour both day and night along Apex Drive with the captivating art display stirring sentiments until 28th April 2019.
