Everything you need to know about Fremantle Biennale WATERLICHT – a magical large-scale light show.
Make sure you make your way to Fremantle, Esplanade Park from November 1st to November 3rd to witness Fremantle Biennale WATERLICHT a magical light show.
Experience a larger-than-life; cascading waves of blue light soaring into the middle of Fremantle’s Esplanade Park – simulating a virtual flood and calling attention to rising water levels along Fremantle’s shoreline.
The work will also embrace the unique physical features of the site while acknowledging its past.
The event is made all the more special as this will mark the first time WATERLICHT has come south of the equator and will be a headline act for Fremantle Biennale running in November.
Here are some helpful tips to ensure you have the best WATERLICHT experience.

Phone check, headphones check
The number one tip is for people to bring their phones + a set of headphones if they’re coming to see WATERLICHT.
There is a great podcast accompanying WATERLICHT that will make the epic blue waves soaring over Esplanade Park even more special.
Leave the car at home
Best to leave the car and come by train. It’s a 5-minute walk from the station to Esplanade Park.
There’s a free CAT bus from the train station, if you want to get a ride to the Cappuccino Strip for something to eat or a drink beforehand.
Transperth: Plan your journey
Best seat in the house
Be Gram ready and hop on the Fremantle Tourist Wheel. This will be a great place to view WATERLICHT.
Alternatively, if you want to have a drink and something to eat while taking in the views of WATERLICHT – the Esplanade Hotel’s Biennale From the Balcony – 7-9pm on Saturday 2nd November will do the job.
Make a night of it
If you are after some food and drink after the event why not take in some of the best Fremantle has to offer such as Strange Company, Bread in Common, Little Creatures, Bathers Beach House, Duck Duck Bruce, Gino’s and more.
If you are in need of a caffeine hit after the event try Ghetto Blaster or Micro Lote Coffee to get your fix.
