If you thought this past UFC and Red Hot Chili Peppers x Post Malone weekend was big, wait until you see what’s on in Perth this week. It kicks off with the Super Bowl LVII and Valentine’s Day before changing pace with orchestral concerts and charity markets as we cruise into the weekend.
Monday, February 13th
Super Bowl LVII
Choose your side — Philadelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs — and head out of the house to catch all of the Super Bowl LVII action.
Varsity will open doors to all its venues at 6:00 am, showing the game across every screen. Get into the spirit of the day with cheap beers, tasty burgers, and a half-time wing-eating competition. The screen will be entertainment enough but, for good measure, there will be prizes and giveaways throughout the game, too.
To ensure nobody gets stuck with a less-than-perfect view, The Globe is bringing in a bunch of extra screens for the day. Reward yourself for the early start with a coffee or a few, then refuel with a big Globe brunch before heading off to work.
Got the day off? Go all out at Ballers Fremantle’s Super Bowl LVII Laneway Party, making the most of their five-hour drinks package with free-flowing beer and Southern Comfort cocktails from the Tailgate-style bar. Food is just as ample, with two meal tickets each and the choice of a burger and chips or half a kilo of wings. The action continues off-screen, too, with raffles, cheerleaders, and a replica of the Vince Lombardi Trophy on display.
Tuesday, February 14th
Valentine’s Day Jazz Concert at Yagan Square
Love is in the air at Yagan Square. In collaboration with The Ellington Jazz Club, the Jessie Gordon Quintet will be setting up at the amphitheatre and performing classic love songs for the Valentine’s Day Jazz Concert. There will also be roving cupids and other surprise performers to set the atmosphere.
Superhero Sweethearts
Shelve the traditional Valentine’s Day dinner and try something different by painting your partner with Pinot and Picasso. The special edition ‘Superhero Sweethearts’ night is for the serious comic fan, set up for you to paint your special someone as the superhero they are, be it Wonder Woman, Batman, or your very own creation.
The session includes all required art materials and will be led by artists. Bring your partner, bring your beverages and snacks, and bring your creativity.
Friday, February 17th
Sorrento Night Markets
Head down to Sorrento on Friday night and have dinner under the stars at Sorrento Night Market.
Different food trucks line the grass weekly, with dumplings from Just Dumplings, Italian from Il Panzerotto, and traditional Greek food from Athena Souvlaki all on the menu for this weekend. Post-dinner, satisfy the sweet tooth with decadent chocolate from Knights Delights or traditional gelato from Antica Gelateria Italiana.
Mad Hatter’s Tea Party
Immerse yourself in the weird and wonderful at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, expect to snack on checkerboard finger sandwiches, cherry tomato toadstools, and teacup macarons. It’s the perfect Instagram fodder. Movie Magic: Sounds From The Silver Screen
Spend the evening with the West Coast Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus as they bring to life music from some of the biggest movies of the past few decades. Journey to Mordor, adventure with Indiana Jones, train some unruly dragons, and celebrate the Circle of Life, all from the comfort of your seat at Perth Concert Hall.
Symphony on the Green
Join the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) and special guests for the City of Rockingham’s Symphony on the Green. Conductor Jen Winley will lead the orchestra through some of your favourite classical and big-screen pieces. They’ll be joined by the soulful sounds of Jackson Venables, Solomon Pitt, and Helen Shanahan.
Gates open at 4:00 pm, with performances starting at 5:30 pm.

Book lovers rejoice: the annual UWA Save the Children University Branch Summer Book Sale is happening this Saturday and Sunday.
