Mark McGowan has provided the latest Perth Lockdown update

This morning after implementing the Perth Lockdown from 6pm last night, Mark McGowan announced no new community cases were detected overnight.

Yesterday, 3171, tests were conducted at public COVID-19 clinics. A majority of these tests were done in the afternoon and evening. Mr McGowan though has stated we need to get more tests done.

Providing an update on Case 903 close contacts, Mr McGowan stated: “today we have identified 66 close contacts, all of which have been tested or will be today and will remain in quarantine.”

“There has been extensive testing of the close contacts of the positive case and that will continue.

“Those contacts have tested negative. Of those, 11 high-risk contacts have been moved into hotel quarantine as an extra precaution,” said Mr McGowan.

Where to get a mask

“I understand there are people who for whatever reason, have not been able to purchase a mask at this point.

Police will be taking a common-sense approach in these situations. While people, adjust to the new rules.” Mr McGowan states.

There will also be the distribution of masks to community organisations to ensure that vulnerable people in particular, can access a mask.

Police will also offer masks to people who are outside without a mask as they will have extra masks on hand.

No travel outside of lockdown areas

People within the Perth, Peel and Southwest regions should not leave during the lockdown period. People can leave the Peel or the Southwest, only to access or deliver essential health and emergency services, and other essential requirements, or to return to their home.

WA police have established seven checkpoints in the priority area, and another eight in the region’s non-residents.

Unless you meet an exceptional circumstance, WA Police will ask you to simply justify why you need to be out during the lockdown – if you need to travel between regions please ensure you have supporting evidence, ie a letter from your employer or evidence of a medical appointment.

Hotel quarantine investigation

After the COVID-19 breach, a new investigation will be launched to find out exactly how the hotel quarantine worker picked up the virus.

“A further review of the WA’s Hotel quarantine arrangements, processes and procedures will be undertaken immediately including any learnings from incidents in other states and internationally and recent incidents in WA.”

Shopping hours extended

After initially pleading for the WA yesterday, Mr McGowan was dissapointed to see pancic shopping throughout Perth supermarkets.

“I urge people to be reasonable, and only take what you need too. Think about elderly citizens who may not be able to get to the shops easily. There will be enough supplies for everyone.

“To assist I can confirm we have permitted Coles and Woolworths to open an hour earlier over the course of this week. This is to help older Western Australians, to help limit the rush.”
