Another Perth storm is on its way.

The Bureau of Meteorology has release yet another severe weather warning for Perth and the southwest of Western Australia as potentially dangerous weather conditions are to hit Friday morning and afternoon.

The good news though, the latest storm will not be as strong as the weather system last Sunday & Monday which saw the iconic Canal Rocks Bridge destroyed, thousands around Perth without power and damage to homes and businesses.

Locations which may be affected include:

  • Albany
  • Bunbury
  • Busselton
  • Katanning
  • Mandurah,
  • Manjimup
  • Margaret River
  • Mount Barker
  • Narrogin
  • Perth

Damaging Winds

The cold front will move through the southwest parts of WA on Friday morning and afternoon bringing with it damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts to around 100 km/h possible, particularly in coastal parts south of Mandurah.

These winds are forecast to develop southwest of a line from Busselton to Walpole from approximately 5am Friday, extending to southwest of a line from Mandurah to Albany by 8am and then Perth and Bremer Bay around midday.

Rainfall

There are chances of thunderstorms and small hail south of Bunbury to Katanning on Friday evening.

Heavy rainfall is possible with totals of 40 to 50mm is expected in the Perth hills and parts of the Southwest District.

Advice From Department of Fire and Emergency Services

  • If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
  • Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
  • Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
  • If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
  • Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
  • Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
  • Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
  • Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live.
  • Assess your home, car and property for damage.
  • If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.
  • If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.
