Wet, wild and windy Perth weather expected tonight.

The perfect weekend Perth weather is now a distant memory with the second severe weather warning issued within two days, however, tonight is expected to be the most severe of the two.

The Bureau of Meteorology says the system will bring very strong, gusty winds and a cold, unstable airmass over the Southwest Land Division from Tuesday afternoon and continuing into Wednesday.

Wind conditions expected

  • Average 60 to 90 km/h
  • Peak of 110 to 125 km/h

Winds are currently developing and will extend to areas southwest of Perth to Albany by 6 pm Tuesday night before moving through remaining parts of the warning area Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:

  • If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
  • Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
  • Unplug electrical appliances and do not use landline telephones if there is lightning.
  • If there is flooding, create your own sandbags by using pillow cases filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home.
  • If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
  • Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current.
  • Slow down and turn your headlights on.
  • Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
  • If it is raining heavily and you cannot see, pull over and park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears.
