The Art Gallery of WA is relaunching with a multi-sensory experience.

AGWA is ready to present its largest ever exhibition of West Australian art.

Launching on Saturday 6th of November the new-look art gallery will host a major relaunch, revealing a 500 person rooftop space with views of the city skyline, an open-air sculpture walk and exciting new sensory offerings.

The View From Here will celebrate all things WA art, featuring over 230 artists, 361 artworks and 111 new works commissioned for this moment. Every single gallery space will be brimming with art, culture and creativity.

Art lover or not, you won’t want to miss this.

The Artists

Some of the artists and artwork featured will include:

Sarah Bahbah

WA-raised and LA-based, Sarah has over 1 million Instagram followers.

Tim Meakins

Tim’s giant 3D-printed sculptures of weightlifters, posers and grinning weights offer a playful interpretation of modern fitness culture and will occupy the new interior rooftop gallery.

Bruno Booth

A family of 34 slinking, stretching, technicolour cats make themselves at home around the gallery.

Christopher Pease

Provider of the new rooftop commission piece- a 34-metre light-based work wrapping around the rooftop wall.

Abdul Abdullah

Three new works from one of Australia’s most provocative painters reference ocean, land and fire in a collective denunciation of ruling class hypocrisy.

Collective Ground Centrepiece

A centrepiece of The View From Here will be Collective Ground, created from the AGWA Foundations $1.5M stimulus package provided in response to COVID-19. It will present some 60 works from over 120 acquired from Aboriginal artists and centres across WA.

It will be shown for a limited season and return in 2022 for longer as part of a whole gallery First Nation’s exhibition event.

Supporting & Celebrating WA Artists

The eagerly anticipated AGWA Rooftop and The View From Here will represent a significant commitment to supporting and celebrating WA artists.

“AGWA will be a champion of WA artists, and the reopening gives a celebration of our local talent and our unique view on the world from this special place.” AGWA Director, Colin Walker said.
